Dutch transportation planners are experts in "Induced Demand", in this case, induced demand for bike-share bikes.

Every train station in the Netherlands rents bikes to train pass holders for €4.65 (about $5US) for 24 hours.

These OV-fiets in #Utrecht are all gone by 10AM. A clear indication of induced demand for bikes (as well as Induced Demand for good transit + bike lanes).

1. So much of griping about losing parking to expand the walk & bike lanes
2. The bike lane is narrower than required 2.3m (7+ feet) each direction. You can see need for wider lane for passing + wider bikes + side-by-side riding
3. Sidewalks are overfilled with #bike parking
4. More space needed for #walking
5. Trees could use a bit more space too
6. Rebuild happening this year!

I believe how a place sees bikes + cars speaks volumes about how it sees its people. Before finding my way to the #netherlands I thought about beautiful #NewZealand with its "green" leaders. And then I visited. I tried to bike there. It was not pretty.

Volgens mij, hoe een plaats #fiets ziet, spreekt boekdelen over hoe het zijn mensen ziet.

Voordat ik naar #Nederland kwam, dacht ik aan het mooie NZ. Ik heb geprobeerd daar te fietsen. Het was niet mooi.
