New article. Solving deep issues requires sufficiently diverse failure. This is how you paint the contours of the box you're in. If you don't expose and challenge assumptions, then the box remains invisible. You can't think outside a box you don't see. Premature success has an opportunity cost. You will accrue learning debt in the long run.

We all begin with the assumptions we have, and we can help one another surface and examine them, thereby raising the level of one’s inquiry.

Learn to tell your own story, and leverage OKRs are proof points of that story.
Don’t think of such self-evaluation as “self-promotion”.
Instead, frame it in light of the simple fact that, in the real world, good work does not speak for itself. You must speak for it yourself if your team is to get the recognition they deserve.

The resulting performance one stratum puts on for another can be called the “public” transcript. Subordinates will typically only go off script while offstage.
Executives only contradict this narrative with each other. This manifests what has been called the “hidden transcript”.

This is perhaps the single greatest hurdle to creating more value: the bizarre insistence that “success” be framed in terms of delivering something specified in the past, thereby short circuiting discovery before it even gets out the door.
