Content warning:alcohol

I think I have invented (?) a new drink. It’s a variation on the Boulevardier, which is itself a variation on the Negroni. (Mr. Black has a coffee Negroni recipe but it uses gin instead of bourbon.)

1 oz. whiskey or bourbon
1 oz. Campari
1 oz. Mr. Black

Stir over ice, then pour into an old fashioned glass with a big rock. Garnish with orange peel.

Pretty tasty.

1) it’s the time of year when everything in Southern California is green and the grass is almost up to my shoulder
2) finished a deliverable that was due today before dinner time - no staying up late for work!
3) spent time on my evening walk just practicing gratitude, especially for friends, faith, and being able to do what I really enjoy at work

It’s like setting your own house on fire, letting it burn down halfway, then putting out the fire and trying to claim credit for saving the house.

I continue to be astonished that there is anyone who cannot - or will not - see the truth of this.

I think one of the wildest things about elite level marathon runners isn't that they are running 26 miles without a pause ... it's that they maintain a pace for a little over two hours that's faster than my fastest sprint right now (about 12-13 mph, sustained). It's just bananas. cbsnews.com/boston/live-update

If any of y'all will be at RSA next week, I'd love to say hello. I wasn't originally planning on going, but was going to be in town for a customer presentation, and then was asked to come a day early, then another day before that, and then stay a day longer, and well now I've rescheduled travel 4 times and will be there all week.

Also doing some interviews about emerging tech security (big focus on quantum and space this year), and we're running a Security Innovation Day at our offices (Salesforce Tower) on Wednesday (the satellite we're launching later this year will be on display, plus some quantum experiments and one of our QKD partners). Cool stuff, lmk if you want to drop in and check it out and I'll get you an invite. :)

That last 40 days of being gone from here felt like a lot longer. Being unplugged from news and reactions to it was good for my mental health, but being apart from my friends here was … well, I definitely felt it. Although less so towards the end (which is what I suppose a 40-day fast of any kind would be like).

Good to be back.

in which UI matters, especially in finance:

"The quirk in the software is that if you type “send $1” it says “okay sending one quadrillion dollars” and you have to backspace over all the zeros? Incredible interface design. “What is the lowest amount of money someone might want to send,” the interface designers asked themselves, and then answered “one quadrillion dollars” and fell out of their chairs laughing. “Fifteen zeros,” they screamed through tears of laughter.”

Matt Levine, of course.
