I was confused why there was a paper bag of dry beans in my mailbox the other day. Until I remembered it's Setsubun and there's the tradition of throwing beans for luck.

It's cool that you can live in the biggest city in the world and there's still some local temple or neighbourhood association that gives everyone in the area a little pack of beans unprompted so they can participate in the tradition.

Still don't have working WiFi or Bluetooth, but I got USB working so I can tether from my phone.

This is with a hand built kernel with various patches. Need to figure out the best way to get these patches working on the Ubuntu kernel

At this point, it's not really elementary OS, it's Ubuntu Mantic with a bunch of patches I've hacked together for hardware support and then overlayed elementary packages.

It's also not really working. I have no networking, no USB and it crashes a lot. But maybe it's still exciting 😂

I've been working on adding a new language feature to the @vala_lang compiler today.

I'm quite experienced writing code in Vala, but I'm a bit out of my depth hacking on the compiler, even though it's written in Vala.

I'm hoping I can get the skeleton of the feature implemented and write some decent tests, so I can get feedback from the maintainers.

I'm a UK-based broadcast engineer that contributes to open source projects in my free time. I mostly contribute to elementary OS, but I've been running Fedora and working on a secret project too recently.
