One area where machine learning is very good: Translation between common languages. I was listening to an interview just now, and I happen to speak both languages spoken and have some familiarity with the subject matter (economics) and frankly, wow. This is difficult, technical language and it comes out pretty much flawlessly. I first read Origin of the Serif in college while checking out everything in the library related to Trajan’s Column and Roman Imperial capitals. Let alone what it did in its time to dispel the going theories, the book spoke so plainly to me: “You want an education? Go out and take it.”
