It's been about a month of Trump's "walking away" from the so-called "peace talks" which consisted mostly of his own delusional statements.

Now, I understand that Trump is old and demented, but can't Rubio and Vance help grampa walk away faster? He urgently needs a rocking chair, a warm blanket and a hot cup of STFU.

It's good but also uncomfortable and annoying.

With Windows, iOS or jailed Android, you're out of luck. Either accept system-wide swap and the sluggishness that comes with it, or go take a turn on the buy-a-new-device-with-more-memory treadmill.

With Linux, you can leverage the power of cgroups to exclude the important apps or services from swapping. 10 lines of Bash code, and you've squeezed a few more years out of that old hardware.

Just saw a guy whose profile says "if you tell me to use Linux, I'll block you."

Seriously, wow. I've read tons of hyperdumb garbage back when I was on Twitter, but here we have a strong contender for the ultimate stupidity prize.

Linux is so liberating, it feels like magic sometimes. I'll give you a quick example: imagine you have a device with slightly not enough RAM which cases swapping. Contrary to the popular belief, swapping is good - it's infinitely better than an OOM-caused crash.

Consider an automation algorithm that fails because its task is mathematically unsolvable due to contradictory definitions or too many variables.

10 years ago, it would've been called an example of overengineering.

Every anthropomorphic feature you ascribe to a machine exists only in your head, only in your imagination. Recognition, generative, hallucinating, and - above all - intelligence. Machines are capable of none of these things.

Believe me or not, I'm on your side. Not because I'm some naive guy in an "I ❤️ USA" T-shirt, but mostly because I'm nothing without the free world.

Here's my advice in case you want one: no matter what your plans are, act now. This situation is unlike anything you've experienced before. Your institutions are no longer able to save you, and the corporations are already in the profiteering mode. There'll be no better moment. The window of opportunity closes much faster than you think.

You might need a billion dollars Fab to make CPU/GPU wafers, but something like Wi-Fi dongles can be produced outside futuristic environments and without large investments. But not around here. Check market.yandex.ru. Every Wi-Fi still available under sanctions is Chinese. Then, there's the fabled Elbrus, the Russian CPU. Have you ever seen an Elbrus-powered device? Me neither.

The moral of the story is that you can fall so hard and so low, that you'll never be able to get up and compete again.

Today, Russia is synonymous with unprovoked aggression, but 30 years ago we were known primarily for brain drain. Politicians and CEOs were too busy lining their pockets.

The important part is that no amount of petromoney in the coffers of the regime and the loyal oligarchy can now fix the damage we sustained back then. We have no serious fundamental science and no tech to speak of. Yandex is just an unfunny parody of Google, and VKontakte is an unremarkable local knock-off of Meta.

If the title didn't say NOAA, my first reaction would've been "yes, the 1990s in Russia were tough" - because it's same shit, different country.

Which is why, dear Americans, I can tell you something about your future further down this road. I can see into your future without a crystal ball and supernatural powers, because it happens to be our present.

Officially, recruiting mercenaries is still outlawed in Russia, but totalitarian regimes ignore all laws, even their own.

To me, it's all very simple:
I fully support peaceful protest. I fully support violent protest.

On the old Twitter, I blocked those who tried to peddle the false dichotomy between peaceful and violent sides of resistance. I'm ready to do the same here.

The correct approach is solidarity and mutual reinforcement. Violent riots strengthen the message of peaceful rallies. Peaceful demonstrations validate the reasons for violent rebellion.

Just stumbled upon this pearl:
>[PGP] gives you complete confidence that you are dealing with the right people and nobody else can read your mail.

When somebody is talking about secure communication and says something like "complete confidence," it's a very good indicator that you probably definitely want to mute the person and seek another opinion.

Theoretically, PGP -encrypted email is safe. Practically, it's near unusable day-to-day due to a very high probably of human error.

And yes, animal agriculture and food processing make you more exposed to all of them. I know that none of you, my dear carrion-gorgers, has even a shred of conscience, so I appeal to this very basic, fundamental thing that your correctly functioning pristine brain may understand: self-preservation. That filthy, disgusting habit of yours is more than unhealthy - it's ultimately outright deadly, and not just for the innocent victims.

You should consider quitting.

Now as for you, dear carrion-gorgers, here's a short list of things that are really actually bad for human brains:
1) Cholesterol.
2) Lead (and heavy metals in general).
3) Mercury. I specifically mention it because the stuff is incredibly toxic, and the world ocean where your "seafood" comes from has mind-blowing concentrations of it after decades of being treated like an international garbage dump.
4) Microplastics.
5) PFAS.

The Nazi never change. If they measured heads 90 years ago, you can be sure they're still doing it now. They just pick new targets. Ten years ago, they came for liberals. Now it's vegans' turn.

My dear fellow vegan, here's the "news": your brain has been measured and found B12 deficient, wrong color, spotty and in every way wrong. Do you need to worry? Nah, not really. In fact, you should be reassured. When they fall back to head-measuring, it means they have nothing else to say.

Anyway, it's 2025, and they're again promoting the same primitive and crude disinfo.

Even though this might seem unrelated, I can't help remembering how about 10 years ago there were articles in various right-wing tabloids saying it's "scientifically proven" that liberals have defective brains which respond "incorrectly" to certain stimuli. Have you ever seen "liberalism is a mental disorder" crap on the old Twitter? That's where it originated - from those very articles.
