I was convinced until a YT commenter reminded: buy used! 1i specs aren't great and you could do much better with something a few years old.

I want a #Windows #computer for infrequent use (#Mac user here), so instead, I grabbed a #Dell Latitude E5470 (i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD), $105 on #eBay. Should be a dece machine (could be a good #Linux device too).

In terms of collecting, JP games aren’t worth as much as US ones. If you want copies purely for playing, though, buying from Japan is a cost-effective way to build a collection and is really worth considering. This can apply for other platforms, too.

I’ve bought and shipped single games before, though. One I got in early 2022 cost just $17 to ship to the US. Even if you’re just buying one game, the savings can make the shipping worth it.

The main reason for doing this: Japanese games are often cheaper if buying direct from Japan via a site like https://buyee.jp. Just got a #Pokemon Shield + Expansion Pass cart-only for $60 (7,500 yen); the US version is ~$100 on #eBay.

I started from scratch about a week ago. Average cost for these was about $1.25 each.

It's an affordable #hobby, especially if you hit #Goodwill sales. You also get bonus features missing from #streaming, and you can cut some streaming services out if you mostly use them for binge-watching a few old favorites at home. I also hear DVDs last a really long time. I plan to upgrade these to #bluray as I spot them in the wild.
