So, a few weeks back, I applied for a position via ZipRecruiter. I got an email today saying the company I applied for gave my application a "thumbs up"? What the hell does that mean? Is the ZipRecruiter backend a bunch of companies just Reddit upvoting/downvoting résumés?

The opacity of this process is baffling.

I just woke up from a dream / nightmare. In this dream, myself and one of my friends were at a convention being held in a Costco. We walked around a bit and looked at stuff until my friend saw a booth that had a wargame setup. This friend then ditched me to play that, which I was unable to participate in because dream logic.

After wandering a bit alone, I stumbled across an old friend I haven't seen in probably over a year now. We exchanged some pleasantries and talked a bit before grouping up to walk around the convention... until I turned around and realized they had silently ditched me at some point.

I woke up, and the worst part of the dream was that it felt like I deserved it.

Medical, vomiting, general griping about the worst week

So, I know I've previously indicated that I don't want to turn this into just constantly complaining, but holy fucking shit, have I had the worst week. To run through the high-level breakdown:

Car breaks down when I went to pick up my housemate from work. Takes several hours of trying to jump it and restart it before giving up and calling AAA. Ends up being an expensive repair.

Monday night TTRPG game got cancelled for the week.

Got heavily ill, vomiting, was a bad scene. Which leads to...

Another evening of heavy vomiting and such, I go to the ER and discover my body is betraying me again. End up having an emergency surgery to have my gallbladder removed. Have to leave the hospital same day to avoid an overnight stay charge (did I mention I don't have insurance/a job?).

More vomiting, so I'm subsisting on small sips of Gatorade every hour or so.

It's frankly a miracle that I am still a functional person. But I am so tired.

My name is Desiree, I'm located a bit outside the north end of Seattle, Washington, and I am a professional copy editor and proofreader with ten years of experience. While the core of that time was spent as the editor of a company's catalog and web publications, I also have experience editing textbooks, fantasy and science fiction novels, essays, short stories, and even professional correspondence. Software-wise, I'm experienced with Lago, Word, and Google Docs for collaborative editing; I'm also quite good with computers, and am able to pick up new software as needed pretty quickly.

While something full-time is preferred, I'm open to freelance work as well (rates negotiable!). I'm perfectly okay with both in-office and work-from-home environments, as needed.
