Content warning:For UK citizens living abroad:
You may be allowed to vote in the next UK election due to recent changes:
https://www.electoralcommission.org.uk/news-and-views/elections-act/changes-overseas-voting
The UK Tories are now desperate to claw votes from citizens overseas. By contrast, in 2016, our votes were not sought for the #Brexit referendum. We lost our EU passports without being granted the right to weigh in.
I encourage others who were annoyed by this to give the Tories the finger symbolically from abroad.

Substitute #RichPeoplesYachtMoney for "the economy™" whenever a think-tank issues a statement or advice.

She always provides a clear, well-reasoned legal analysis of the major (US) cases we hear about in the news. And she explains things well for us non-lawyers.

Along with some 200 million others. Sigh.
Changed my password-manager-generated credentials immediately, but I've not logged into Twitter for a few months now.
I'll leave my account up for archival reasons, but I'm not going back. It is a disaster there now.

I greatly appreciate that most long-time #Mastodoners are welcoming the exodus with grace (rather than rolling their eyes or wagging their fingers at late adopters like me, which is sorta understandable).
(I do like the larger character limit on toots!)

I do hold, um, some strong opinions that I voice from time to time; where those opinions are informed & supported by established facts, I'm inclined to stand by them. I do hold other weaker opinions: I can modify those when new—at least new to me—facts come to light and/or others share their perspectives appropriately (as a grown-up ought to, IMHO).

• @dhavide@mathstodon.xyz for math stuff;
• @dhavide@fosstodon.org for computing & open-source software stuff; and
• @dhavide for everything else (politics, culture, cat pictures, etc.).
Where topics overlap, I'll crosspost. My goal is to generate more effective signals rather than noise by decoupling topics between servers/accounts. I'm open to suggestions of more effective usage patterns—I'm still figuring things out.

My name is Dhavide; I'm a Canadian mathematician & computer scientist. Once upon a time, I earned my living as a professor. I currently work as the Director of Education & a Principal Solution Architect for #Quansight LLC.
My main social media outlet was Twitter until recently. I'm excited by the opportunity the Fediverse provides to reassess ways for technologies to serve people—and democracy—rather than advertisers.
