I'm starting to think about my next motorcycle trip.

Maybe I'll do Canberra - got some mates down there I haven't seen in years. That's a round trip of about 4,000 km.

If I want to be ambitious, I could extend that to Melbourne, and even Hobart - making for round trips of 5,000 km and 6,500 km respectively.

That's up to 13 days of riding... the question is, how much time do I really want to spend? 🤔

Got my Harley back from its 8,000 km service. Clean bill of health. 💪🏻

Cost was $449 AUD ($290 USD) from the dealer. Steep, but only 2× more than the Honda CRF300 Rally or Grom.

They lubed up the gear shifter. So far, no more mis-shifts into neutral when going from first to second.

I asked to replace a cracked rear indicator lens, but it turns out they're sealed LED units, and replacing the whole thing would cost a fortune. I'll live with it for now.

I missed the date, but Wolfenstein 3D turned 33 years old on May 5th. Happy birthday to one of the most iconic and influential games of all time!

Wolf3D was one of the first games I ever played as a kid. I actually thought it was scary - I was very young, and unprepared for a game where foes shoot you face-to-face. 😁

I haven't played it in around 15 years now, but I remember it holding up well at that time. The mazes become a bit of a slog, but the core gameplay is 10/10.

My Honda Grom's registration is up for renewal: $480 AUD ($309 USD). I don't think I've ridden it since July last year, and I haven't ridden my Honda CRF300 Rally since getting the Harley.

I don't really *want* to get rid of them, but I don't really see myself riding them either. The registration and insurance costs are burning a hole in my wallet. 🤔

With the Harley due for its 8,000 km service this week, I gave it its first wash.

It was even filthier than I thought. There was *so much mud* in and around the rear wheel. Cleaned up pretty well though.

I discovered that the lower exhaust shield also got scratched up when I dropped the bike in gravel. More battle scars. 💪🏻

Planning to take it on a small overnight trip next weekend. Can't wait.

With the road trip now over, I've booked my Harley-Davidson Street Bob in for its 8,000 km (5,000 mi) service.

It's been pretty reliable. The only real problem I've had is difficulty shifting from first gear to second - the bike tends to shift into neutral instead. Unsure why, but I'll get the dealer to look at it.

Besides that, one of the turn signal lenses is cracked in multiple places, but that's a cheap fix.

Last day of my trip saw me riding back home from Emerald QLD.

I loved Emerald. Super cozy. It has a HUGE miniatures store - Emerald Hobbies - and an even bigger Big Easel.

Blackwater lived up to its name, with the filthiest servo I've ever seen. I don't think I'll stop here again. 🤣

I ended up getting home after dark, about three hours later than planned - but made it in one piece. Now my bike is due for a service. 😁

Gotta say, I'm impressed with how easy it is to lift the Harley up off the crash bar. Far easier than the Honda CRF300 Rally, despite the Harley weighing twice as much and having all my luggage strapped to it.

Besides the low center of gravity, having tall handlebars and a sissy bar really make it easy to get a solid grip and plenty of leverage, even when you're on gravel.

I slowed down to pull off the road and visit a historic site when I realised I was about to hit thick, loose gravel. I've gained some experience with gravel on the Harley and thought I could handle it; it was too late to stop anyway. Unfortunately, I slid out and fell over.

The bike and I are totally fine. The crash bar did its job and protected any of the other parts from touching the ground. 💪🏻

The ride from Saint George to Mitchell was a long one at 210 km/2+ hrs with no interesting stops along the way. To make it worse, I was travelling late on the afternoon, when roos could be out, and with the sun in my eyes. I had to take it extra slow, and did see plenty of roos, but had no close calls. All part of the adventure. 😁

I found some interesting animal tracks when stopping for a break. Can you guess what they are?

Since I lost a heap of time searching for my sunglasses, I was in a hurry to reach Goondiwindi before dark and didn't take any more photos along the way.

However, the ride from Narrabri to Moree was fantastic - definitely a highlight of the trip for me. 110 km/hr, dead flat, and almost completely a straight line. You can see all around you to the horizon, with mountains on the eastern side, and cotton fields here and there. The kind of cruising I love. 😁
