I'm in training to ride the 72-mile Tour de Fox to raise money for Parkinson's research.

I was invited to do this by a friend who got early-onset Parkinsons at age 55. Thanks to his treatment, he is still in good enough shape to ride, and he asked me to join his team. For us it was timely, as my mother-in-law was also diagnosed this year. I'm sure you have loved ones affected as well.

72 miles is longer than I've ever ridden before. I've been doing training rides to work up to it; today I made 60 miles, which really boosted my confidence that I'd be able to finish.

These lil guys hatched less than 48 hours ago. The parents built the nest in the lowest branch of our crape myrtle tree. I told them to pick a thicker branch that doesn't move so much in the wind, but they didn't listen.

Well, I just was accosted by a guy, clearly having a mental health crisis, but also threatening me with a switchblade. I got the family in the car, and he got right up to me, saying all sorts of stuff with the knife out.

Some dude pulled up right behind him and started honking, and then he moved off. Somehow I got on the car lightning quick, don't really remember how that happened.

I hope he gets help, and I hope he doesn't hurt anyone. I reported it, even though I was worried that the police would not treat this as a guy who needs help, but I worry may hurt someone else. The dispatcher told me they had already had several calls.

Still, it feels weird that a guy had a knife pointed at my ribs from a foot away.
