I've recently been trying to find businesses that make quality stuff, rather than trying to get into Amazon or Walmart. I'll be in NYC next week and interested in any recommendations for one-of-a-kind places there.

As examples, Neversink tools makes some really nice garden stuff. And Tools For Working Wood seems great (although I'm not a woodworker).

Is the bottom type, ⊥, similar to `!`?

I can't figure out what it means to increase the set of possible values. Given an anonymous type A, `fn(A)` puts A in a contravariant position. Then given B <: A, fn(A) <: fn(B), meaning that any function taking A is also a function taking B. But how does that relate?

It has me thinking about an idea I've been toying with for a while.. so much of "the internet" is built by stealing data from unwilling people -- whether advertising and tracking, or AI, or code-hosting sites, or social networks, or identity theft.

Instead of trying to resist these massive data-harvesting industries, what if we, collectively, poisoned them? What if GitHub was full of broken code? What if everyone's advertising profile was "clicks on precisely every 11th ad"?

I'm reading this article about Nightshade, a way to "poison" training data fed to image-generation AI's, so that they give bogus results for specific prompts. I think the idea is that everyone whose work has been stolen to build these AIs can add a little Nightshade to their content, and on their next training run the AIs will start producing garbage and we'll remember them as the stupid fad after NFTs.
