The power supply in the Mac IIsi unalived itself, and I decided I was done. The recap held up for a few years. I checked every solder joint and a lot of components, but it was never in the best shape after being battery bombed anyway. I finally decided to build a CayMac PSU board with new parts. This Mac may be more of a resto-mod at this point but I was happy to see it run again.

I started a tradition years ago playing retro games with my kids during the holidays. This year, In a blend of old + new style retro, I found this neat Famicom on Aliexpress that uses a socketed CPU, and an FPGA for the PPU giving you HDMI, VGA, and RGB/svideo outputs. It comes with a Dendy clone CPU, but you can flip dip switches and use a real Ricoh 2A03 or 2A07 PAL CPU. I like that it has real NES controller ports. Works great with a Famicom to NES cart adapter as well.

I found sad_mac selling 68040 33/66 daughter cards on eBay for PowerBook 500 series. He has more than 10 and I figure they came out of 540c machines that got PPC upgrades. I only have a 520c and figured, let's see if it'll bump to 33Mhz since the clock crystal is on the card. He offered it to me for $15 plus shipping which was a good deal. Card works great in my 520c. Will run some Snooper tests soon.

I'm not going to say this is the most jank I've done to a machine to get it boot, but this poor IIcx was DOA when I got it. Recapped it. Bad startup circuit jump started with pins 9 & 10 on power supply for now. 4 broken simm slots, in bank A of course. Cardboard to the rescue to prop up some simms. Ooof, it needs some love but it has life! Anyone know of a 3d printed bracket that would hold simms in place on a IIcx? I'm not feeling up to replacing the sockets.

In my quest to find an off the shelf rattle can for 3d printed parts that matches the 90s Mac aesthetic, Rustoleum Heirloom white is getting closer, but not quite there. I wish it came in matte instead of satin. I've yet to find a spray can called, '90's Mac Grime & Dirt', but I bet there's a market for it. This is even after a round of retrobright on Rusty the 8500. Yikes.

Trade show trinkets! Wanted to share some fun CPU keychains and trinkets I've collected. Some have funny stories, like the PPC chips I had sent to me by IBM in high school because I was writing a paper about RISC vs CISC. I wrote IBM a letter and they sent me these cool items. The Intel Pentium I found on eBay and it looked unique. Description said, 'found in a drawer at my new house'. This article explains the history- chipsetc.com/intel-keychains-p What cool items do you all have to share?

@BigBadBiologist Hey BigBad, I was wondering if you had tried these 68030 47mhz w/ 68882 accelerators. They appear to be the 68KMLA design by ZZJ, clock tripled from 16mhz bus. I may try one in a socket on a IIcx. This ebay seller is near me in Round Rock, TX so I ordered one to play with it. He says he makes and tests them himself. He has 4 left.
