I don’t know if this is the fix for all my shit but it gives me a better place to troubleshoot from. I have 2 kids under 7. I watch how they put thoughts together & I recognize how much influence I have on their internal programming. So the hope is that I can reprogram myself and apply the compassion/good programming that I try to provide my kids. I’ve always pushed back on the “parenting yourself” fix for childhood trauma but perhaps I was wrong. Hopefully this perspective might help someone.

For me, using this metaphor makes it something I can comprehend. So now I’m practicing writing down what I’m dealing with. Then write down exactly what I think about what’s happening & why I’m responding to it the way I am. Re-read it & look for the flaws. Basically I troubleshoot my internal code. Write down the flaw in logic. Write down where the flaw seems to originate from. Then attempt to rewrite the code from a healthier perspective. Giving my brain better choices to choose from.

So when describing this process to my therapist I used the metaphor of computer programming/coding. What I’m realizing is my basic code is bad. It’s built on unhealed trauma. So basic computations trigger unhealthy reactions. And it’s all automatic. Once my program executes it will find a way to make me feel bad.

But once I saw my issues through this lens it made the idea of dealing w/ it almost easier. Whereas unpacking my own traumas seem overwhelming, I can totally troubleshoot bad code.

To the point that *any* decision I make? I will yell at myself about it. If I do “A” my brain yells “You’re an idiot. That’s obviously wrong.” If I do “B” my brain yells “You fucking moron, did you even consider A?”

In therapy I’ve been trying to verbalize some internal issues I’ve been dealing with. I recently realized most thoughts/criticisms I have for myself aren’t done consciously. They’re automatic to the point that I don’t even realize I’m criticizing myself. I just feel like shit. ADHD folks often criticize themselves extremely harshly and have issues letting things go. Traumas skew how we talk to ourselves/think. I knew that but I didn’t get how much of that occurs subconsciously.

I’ve started my own instance/server which has obviously changed my Fed TL since the last server I was on had thousands of users, I’m trying to decide, should I advertise my instance to gain more users thereby spicing up the local timeline and the fedTL or should I create a following account on my instance and follow as many folks as possible and let my instance grow as slowly as it wants? I know there’s probably not a right answer so I’m just interested in thoughts.

Just saw a story on the bird site about some legislation that those talking about it? Haaaate. The problem is, Twitter search is turning up only conservative/Alt-right talking points. I can’t tell if there just isn’t a response from the left, or worse, has the algorithm been skewed so that mostly conservative/alt-right voices are seen in search. I never needed help seeing alt-right voices. They were always there. But now they seem to be THE voice on the app. Ugh.
