Counting down the hours to #Barcelona and then #Lisbon. My favorite time to #travel is off season, when I can meander freely down side streets, stop in a little cafe or pub, and breathe in a new atmosphere (hopefully a virus-free one).

My husband survived #PancreaticCancer for 8+ years. His only symptom was unrelenting pain in his upper belly. We were lucky his attentive GP ordered a CT scan, which showed an abnormailty on the pancreas. #PancreasCancer was diagnosed following MRI & endoscopic needle biopsy. He was scheduled for the complex #Whipple surgery within two weeks of diagnosis. The pain began in December, the CT was early January, and he was in the OR by late/mid January.
November is #PancreaticCancer Awareness Month!
Life threw a growing #PublicHealth concern my way. #PancreasCancer is on track to become the 2nd leading cause of cancer deaths by 2030. As I contemplate the care my husband received at #ColumbiaSurgery and at #MSKCancerCenter I’m reminded that we were very lucky. Many people — perhaps most — are not. And patients shouldn’t require the luck of geography, superior insurance, or a decent bank balance to access basic cancer care. #HealthCareAccess
Sometimes fate throws a #PublicHealth issue your way. Today is World #PancreaticCancer Day & as I contemplate the extraordinary care we received at #ColumbiaPresbyterian & #MSKCC, I’m reminded of those who haven’t access to such care. We were lucky…….but you shouldn’t have to be. #PancreasCancer #PDAC

Along with remembering those who lost their lives to #PancreasCancer since #WPCD 2021, I’m remembering Jay and feeling hopeful that science is on the precipice of a deeper understanding of the complexities of #PDAC.

It’s not easy to tell family about a #BRCA defect. Some shrug it off; some even become angry. Rather than serving as a reminder to be proactive & test, fear of #PancreaticCancer rendered one incommunicado. Sadly, this is a family with a heavy history of young onset breast & ovary cancers & pancreatitis.

#Books in shelves and piles everywhere, in every room and the foyer. I walk over to the local senior center every week or so with my roller luggage filled
with books. I also have a big basket at my front door with a note: Take one....or as many as you'd like. They're taking over my flat!
Jay’s #PancreasCancer was diagnosed following CT scan, MRI, and endoscopic needle biopsy. He was scheduled for the complex #Whipple surgery within a couple of days of diagnosis. Onset of pain preceded surgery by about a month.

November is #PancreaticCancer awareness month. Jay’s first symptoms were an ache in his upper belly, lethargy, and a loss of interest in taking the long walks we enjoyed. He was depressed — and aware something was amiss.
