@mystmarkdown

- MyST uses a JS parser with its own AST specification. Quarto employs Pandoc AST, which is more matured.
- Quarto supports custom Lua-filters; not sure MyST has similarly powerful extension API
- Both are open source
- MyST has a more permissive license and clear governance structure
- Quarto is maintained by a for-profit company, MyST is currently funded by the Sloan foundation

@mystmarkdown

More thoughts on MyST/Quarto

- MyST focuses on technical writing; Quarto aims to be more versatile. A focused approach can be advantageous.
- No slide decks in MyST
- Similar technical writing features
- MyST has substitutions akin to {bookdown} text-references, which I miss in Quarto. Not sure they support computed values, math, etc.
- MyST works with Curvenote, a Jupyter notebook-friendly platform for collaborative writing: curvenote.com/for/jupyter

@mystmarkdown What make MyST interesting is that it seems to place more emphasis on JATS, has a nice interface for picking results form different notebooks, and the templating interface looks kind of slick.

Where I suspect MyST may lag behind Quarto/pandoc is complex tables and support for MS Word.

I have been invited to serve as a "Review Editor" for Frontiers in Psychology, and I don't really understand the role. From reading the guidelines, it seems that review editors are basically just reviewers. What's the difference between a review editor and an external reviewer? Is it that the former receive a higher volume of manuscripts and get an extra line on their CV?

I'm very honored to have been awarded first prize in the dissertation competition of the section General & Cognitive Psychology of the German Psychology Association.
