I will say that when I dropped the link to my annotated citations from my presentation, there were folks who clicked and stayed. ONe of these years I'll plop stuff on my site 'cause then I can get stats and see who downloads.
Also, the one person on the panel expressed that taking away *all* dev ed was too much. WOW. People with good sense sometimes sneak in to these events...

ONe started to explain issues with trying to do math and not getting it and I thought, "OH!! Maybe one of my people!" but ... oh, it's a math major.
And now it's the thing where if math isn't their primary field of study, math ... shouldn't be the thing that gets in the way and they delay it, and are nervous about it.
Again.... the whole "do they know the math" is not even part of the discussion.

Have I mentioned that they claim to be about equity? Which should be for everybody?

The one person was *struck* by how many people didn't understand rates and simple arithmetic and things like proportions and they were sophisticated, highly educated people.

Just Equations ostensibly is about equitable math education but these conferences always feature folks already successful. They don't actually address or even acknowledge the inequities that mean so so many folks are getting through high school without the basic foundations.
It's all about trimming and cutting.

Hey, swearing off conferences worked for .. twitter math camp 2018 does *not* count, it was 25 bucks. And an affordable hotel. And teacher people.

I found the second and it took many more seconds to realize, "oh!!! You have to fill it up before you turn it in! " and rolled the memory back, that's right, filled once going out, once halfway back... the third receipt you don't have yet..."
Whew :) AND I found the other food receipt while I was looking.

The Center for the Study of Community Colleges has pretty much fully embraced colleges as businesses, and most of the folks are doing research about them, often just research looking at data about them, without an understanding of what they're actually like.
There was some cool stuff even in that context and a couplt of things *breaking* that mold.
SIgh, next week is another -- at least it's virtual - conference by a group that is certified neoliberal (I know what that means now), and all about weeding out the folks who won't give us the fastest return on our investment and make our numbers look good.

But I asked about the getting rid of remedial courses anyway and they ended up shsushing me ever so polietly (okay, their non-profit neoliberal said "corequisites are just so much better!" and I snapped "only for the folks who almost qualify, sorry about the truth." )
I did call him out about saying we were apathetic about dev ed, and that WE AREN'T.
And I am happy to say that one of the other 2 or 3 people there at the LAST SESSION had the last word, stating that her research was about how the *actual practitioners* had no say in anything and our voices were being silenced. I thanked her, saying at least it gave peopel a reson for me being so angry.

SO, no, none of their cohort came to my presentation.
And there will prob'ly be five people there bcuase it's the last flogging session.
But I have just written down my question which is basicaly my presentaiton that was turned into a round table that hardly anybody came to.
