Does anyone have good examples of shared pedestrian / cyclist spaces? I am often asked for feedback on new bits of bike path which typically runs past train stations. Rather than paying for grade separation the project designers instead mix people walking to the station with those using the bike path and then ask me what they can do to stop conflicts from occurring! Any suggestions of where this has actually worked? Thanks :) #ActiveTransport #BikeTooter

This article is about e-scooters being speed regulated in cities, but cars - which are much more dangerous to those outside them - are not. The same applies to e-bikes. In WA (and I believe the rest of Australia) the power assist is limited to 25kph, which is actually slower than most people would comfortably ride. When you go over that speed, you are stuck pushing a really heavy bike! And that's not even getting to adapted wheelchairs - these have the speed capped at 10kph!!! "for safety" - you can run faster than that.
I have witnessed SO much hand-wringing in meetings with public servants about the dangers of riders going to fast, but nothing about car drivers. Anyway here is the article: https://www.forbes.com/sites/carltonreid/2022/11/03/why-are-slow-rental-e-scooters-speed-regulated-in-cities-but-fast-motor-cars-are-not/?sh=7427412732b6

Apologies for missing the alt text on my last post!

6.11.2022 04:48My commuter, the Greta Thunberg #biketooter #cycling #activetransportHello everyone!
A little #intro about me.
I live and work on Whadjuk Country in Boorloo / Perth, Western Australia. In my job and my personal life I'm an advocate for creating sustainable cities where it's easy and safe for everyone to use a bike or other #activetransport to get around. Honestly just getting climate change to the front of the conversation with government and the community, in this state captured by fossil fuel companies, would be a great start. My main motivations are getting emissions down before 2030 and creating a fairer society.
Looking forward to connecting with and learning from people here. Always on the lookout for collaborations with other active transport advocates in Australia.
