We're hosting a symposium on...Third Thursday is an Athens event run collaboratively by a bunch of art venues, encouraging people to go see some art on the Third Thursday of the month. For the next three, four of those venues, including ours, are letting visitors build their own art print by collecting one stamp at each venue. Layering all four stamps, each in a different color, will create a print inspired by old postcards that encouraged people to visit Athens. Should be fun!

The text accompanying it acknowledges the futility of trying to contact the president-elect through such means but also serves as a way of expressing hope.

Artists Les Levine and Dennis Oppenheim organized the gift. They said, “To us, Carter represents hope. A man from Plains wants to put America back to feeling good about itself and people back to feeling good about one another. . . . Instead of saying ‘What are these people going to do for us?’ We are saying, ‘. . . let’s all be open to the possibility of hope.’ The kind of art we make is open to new ideas; we use new materials and new approaches.”
