Isn't chromium opensource? Even though google has full control of the project, can't it just be forked if needed?

I get that engine competition is good, but having a base standard is also good.

I mean, linux users for the most part use the same linux kernel, and there doesn't seem to be a huge movement demanding different kernels competing with each other. 🤔

Maybe some at META or engineers working on threads believe in federation/decentralization. Maybe it will never actually federate with Mastodon. We’ll have to wait and see.

However, threads could also harm us by making the few orgs and celebrities that did join the Fediverse, to just effectively switch to threads. Maybe someone like George Takei.

I'd totally pay a few bucks a month to have files, game saves, highscores etc. automatically saved onto an account, so I can easily access them on different devices. 🤔
