Use https://gamepad-tester.com/ to check for center. To adjust, move the stick in one direction, insert a sharp thing into one of the holes in the orange thing to grab the magnet, then push it in the other direction with the stick.
Do that until you're pretty much centered and then run through the tune process on https://dualshock-tools.github.io/
So my process is now: Pry off the old potentiometers from the stick and remove them with a soldering iron with a big tip.
Then add lots of regular solder to the remaining pins to mix it with the lead free stuff and lower the melting temp. Add flux and then use hot air to remove the rest of the stick (much easier for me with my cheap station after the pots are gone; full temp, 80% airflow). Remove the remaining solder with solder sucker and/or wick.
Insert new sticks, solder one edge first (…)
First time that I experienced stick drift, on a PS5 DualSense that I bought refurbished some time ago.
I replaced both sticks with hall effect ones and everything turned out fine! It was a bit of a challenge though, next time it'll be easier 🙂
I indulged in some novelty building and put my DIY MIDI light show inside of my DIY MIDI controller.

Printed the bottom out of transparent PETG, highly inspired by the Hercules DJ Control Starlight. I don't plan on releasing this but I think it's pretty fun.

You know, with *everything*.
Recent death in the family and some inheritance stuff forces me to think about the future while I'm trying my best to not even think about the present.
Still have the parts. No takers?
28.3.2025 10:07Still have the parts. No takers?#ottopotHot take: Wireless is still a lie. Everybody has that one device that always works (Dualsense on the PS5 for me) so we think that it must be possible, but IMO it is just luck and skewed perception.
Overall it is unreliable, practically impossible to debug, way too complicated and the convenience is not worth the hassle.
Invest in cables. This is not financial advice.

It was good.
I'm sorry.

I'm considering this the v1 release 🙌
The ottopot is a MIDI controller with 8 endless potentiometers sending 14bit CCs.
Special thanks to @Nervengift for the PCB contribution.

Thanks to @Nervengift there is a PCB now and building one got so much easier. I made a new version of the case as well. The one in the picture is a silly hexagon version just for kicks.
I'm working on the build manual right now. I'm extremely happy with it and once again motivated enough to see if it is at all possible to sell them as a side gig.
I'm starting to try using multicast DNS locally; in my mind, it's still not reliable enough but it's been ages since I gave it a shot. I switch network interfaces a lot (wifi, multiple external ethernet adapters, office and at home…) so it does help.
First tests at home are very promising!
I've just added a controller script for Logic to the ottopot repo: https://codeberg.org/gerotakke/ottopot/src/branch/main/Controller%20Scripts/Logic/config.lua
More news very soon.

- git init --bare --shared
- rclone serve webdav [that-git-folder] --addr […] --cert […] --key […] --user […] --pass […]
- for every commit, run git update-server-info in that folder
- on the other client, clone and probably set http.sslVerify to false
I've been thinking and I want the hash before the hashtag gone when displaying the text. It should be a special kind of link, visually distinct from other links but not include the #. You would still input it the same, it just wouldn't be shown for the output.
I think that makes it much better for the reader and would motivate people to use them more.
