My macbook pro I got in college is approaching 13 years old, and it's still where I do most of my audio and video editing, and for the most part still runs well.

It's finally starting to have some problems that are getting hard to ignore and I don't know how much longer it is for the world.

Replacing it is so expensive though, without a discount and a boat load of student loans I can't ever imagine just having a $1,400 lying around to get another macbook pro.

$599 macmini is slightly more realistic (only slightly) but man just 16 GB of ram is rough, and it costs $400 to upgrade it to 32GB. Now, my current macbook only has 8 GB of RAM so even 16 would feel like a pretty huge upgrade, but it just feels like if I buy again I should future proof again if possible, and $999 is as unattainable as $1,400 is.

I'm fully capable of doing the work on Windows or linux so this really would only be a luxury. I guess it's just a luxury out of my reach because I have so many other expenses and low job security.
