My commitment to #RefuseToFly to reduce my CO2 emissions was inspired by a group of Scientists for Global Responsibility travelling to the COP3 in Kyoto in 1997 by train, ferry and bicycles (👉https://www.chooseclimate.org/climatetrain/). This way, they reduced their CO2 emissions by ~8 times.

There are many political forces in Europe that would like to restrain supra-national political forces and revert to nationalism. And yet, trust in the EU has never been as strong as now (with the exception of 2007). Source: @EurobarometerEU . The same is true for the Euro as a common currency.

It seems that the world is sliding toward a new cold (or hot) war with zones of influence and big blocks, with the US closer to Russia than the EU. It is for this reason that I want to have a stronger Europe that remains the bastion of freedom, acceptance, and openness.

Let's not forget that every institution is made of people. It's up to the people to either own the institution or let it slip into the interests of powerful political and economic groups. Citizens should be critical & vigilant, as Pippa Norris argues.

I dream of a federal Europe, even if nationalism is on the rise even here. As Brexit has ended up streghtening the EU, I do hope that the shockwaves produced by the Trump racist,wayward,and techno-fascist government will buttress a truly democratic EU even more. 2/2
