Reflecting on the whole Twitter saga: it's really frustrating that I cannot take my posts with me (a huge cost-to-exit) and it's surprising that none of the alternatives are set up to do a scrape-and import as part of their attempt to woo new subscribers (reduce the switching cost). It seems all the components are there!

I appreciate that Mastodon allows me to move followers and follows between servers, but again: it does not allow the movement of posts, which just duplicates the lock-in.

If you want to learn a singular, specific trade and nothing else then ...you shouldn't be applying to liberal arts schools? You should go to a vocational school/trade school/coding camp/etc.

Skip all the college ranking noise: get the type education you prefer. The USA has a robust market in both types.

Sharing this in case it is helpful: once I crossed the "following 600 people" threshold my homepage became more lively and Twitter-esque. (In Twitter once I crossed 100-ish the algorithm could "sufficiently" take over).

I'm literally just adding a few accounts from the "for you" and from the server each day just to increase the number of people I'm following, that seems to be enough to bring in (from their reposts) more things into my home feed. 600 seems to be the tipping point.

#Mastodon question: For some reason, #notifications on my phone are being sent through both the Mastodon app and through the internet app on my phone (Samsung internet, default Mastodon app). In essence: I'm getting double notified when I only want the notification from the app.

I've checked the phone, phone browser, and thenmastodon app settings and can not find where the dual notification setting is originating from.
