#VideoGames I finished in April, 2025. All quite fun, but NORCO was by far the most interesting story.
I'm considering writing a review claiming Tangle Tower & Midnight Girl belong to the same low stress puzzle / #pointandclick genre/trend/style, along with Darkside Detective (not played in April)
Night before the #AustralianElection2025 :
Looking up all the small, weird & often racist parties to figure out your preferential voting list.
Laugh-crying at how bad their websites, photos/bios & policies are.
Shuddering, knowing you'll have to decide a number to put in their box.
Voting is compulsory.
I've just cleared out a bunch of hashtags I was following. I feel like they filled my timeline but didn't encourage me to reach out in friendship. And often the hashtag was the thing I scrolled past fast, thinking it was a bit ick.
(The hashtags you follow are in profile, then click on the 3 dots).
Let's see how a quieter Mastodon feels, and which hashtags I want to re-introduce...
Kid is explaining to me advertising for the Australian election, as seen on YouTube. A lot of reprehensible dog whistling plus a weird ad comparing Labor to leftists in Iran, from the perspective of an Iranian-Australian man. Has anyone else seen the Iran-focused ad? WTF was that all about?! #auspol

If Trump/USA is playing silly buggers* with medical & food aid to people worldwide who desperately need them, then we (the citizens of rich countries) should demand our governments step it up & increase the overseas aid budget. If we do that, we can collectively replace the US #auspol

I can read English, French or German fluently enough to understand a complex topic like this
4.4.2025 07:02I can read English, French or German fluently enough to understand a complex topic like thisDo people recommend any good, properly researched books/articles on Ukraine & Russia & their histories?
So that I can get to know the views of both sides (even if I'm biased to believe one side more than the other). I'm most interested in socio-cultural and political explanations, I'm not interested in military strategy etc
If you are a #DiscoElysium fan, you might like to see this before it is (likely) taken down from YouTube. It purports to be an internal presentation on X7, a project ZA/UM cancelled, that was set in the DE world but written largely by Argo Tuulik and Dora Klindžić:

I'd like to praise #NorcoGame. I've finished Act 1 and didn't get confused at all. I usually get stuck and need to consult online help, even in #PointAndClick games. The flow of Norco and the way it unfolds is very, very good.
30.3.2025 08:41I'd like to praise #NorcoGame. I've finished Act 1 and didn't get confused at all. I usually get stuck and need to consult...This is not going well - I assume the 19 new backers yesterday weren't able to make up for the number of people withdrawing or downsizing their pledges?
Of course, this may just be a blip, but the comparator game hasn't yet had any days of negative pledges
Just started playing #NorcoGame. It's a beautiful opening.
I love the simplicity of the way the choices are presented. I don't know yet how much they matter; whether I can only choose one; or should I choose and read them all? (Don't tell me yet, if you've played)
I really didn't want the links to embed an image, but can't remove it -ugh!
27.3.2025 05:28I really didn't want the links to embed an image, but can't remove it -ugh!I've been tracking #Hopetown 's Kickstarter as I've become interested in #discolike video games. I don't have skills in Kickstarter analytics, so I picked The Sinking City as a comparator:
<https://www.kicktraq.com/projects/frogwares/the-sinking-city-2/#chart-daily>
Hopetown's has fewer people interested:
<https://www.kicktraq.com/projects/longduegames/hopetown/#chart-daily>
Which may sadden the Hopetown devs, as the Kickstarter aims to show future investors there's interest in the game. They say the $$ won't help them. But I understand they already have at least 1 tech bro investor, so is Kickstarter really the venue? The Kickstarter page boasts so many industry credits & mentors, it feels uncool to ask for community help.
I was wanting #BrowserGame comfort & thought I'd explore #Match3 on CrazyGames. Most games were too bubbly-primary-colours for me & seemingly only designed to catch advertising $$. They wanted to hold my hand way after the tutorial should have ended ... surely Match 3 isn't that hard?
My recommendations:
TowerSwap is actually interesting, I didn't get past day 31 but really enjoyed the day of building/swapping to build stronger defences, followed by night when the dragons attack.

Merge World, with the warning it's a time suck. Literally you wait x number of minutes & seconds for the fairies to construct the building you got from matching 3 or harvest more raw materials. 3 of this building are need to make 1 of another building, until the game sprawls and slows. I spent a day on it, I needed a mental break, but I'm unlikely to play again

Spent 4 days no phone no internet, due to [redacted]. I can still do that easily. Read/re-read some books.
Heck, I can even do the surprise sit for 5 hours in a waiting room with no book, no phone. No problem.
Unfortunately, I've only partially succeeded in teaching these skills to the kids - they can do a waiting room, but not days relaxing.
It's kinda sad if only pre-internet-born people can escape back to that world, it's calmer
so thankful for the cool change after a 40C day
28.1.2025 10:50so thankful for the cool change after a 40C day #SydneyWeatherTootingUpdate: I've successfully got several further than I ever have before, picking up at least 2 more keys! Feeling pleased with myself and keen to continue the story

A moment after this, the captain tells his crew to throw the player's characters (Robin & Mina) back overboard.
The dialogue is sometimes odd, a non-gentle introduction to a world that leaves me asking lots of questions. Perhaps this effect is heightened by translation, or perhaps it's 100% intentional.
I do have lots of trouble with hand coordination to achieve things in this game. I've got marginally better since getting stuck the first time, but we'll soon see whether I've got better enough ... I'm stuck around the same spot I gave up last time
P.S. Forgive me friends, I am flailing about trying to see how I want to Mastodon. It's one of the few acceptable services left, but I've never decided quite what to do with it not how to present myself

I've dealt with some % of the moderation issues it might cause by running a large discord, but none of the technical stuff.
Actually, the thing I'm thinking about is running a Mastodon instance for the people in the discord as a backup - Discord is in the USA, I could put a Mastodon server elsewhere
