Momentary bound to use a "mobile" desktop and I must say that the #Apple #MacBookPro + #iPadAir 13" as #sidecar screen with #BetterDisplay setup is really nice.
Currently running #macOS on a 2704x1756 (#macBook ) + 2732x2048 (#iPad ) dual display setup.
This does not even require the paid version of #BetterDisplay.
What I will recall from the late #JimmyCarter: https://millercenter.org/the-presidency/presidential-speeches/april-18-1977-address-nation-energy
This was 1977. We haven’t changed much since then and are now severely facing the consequences of it.
Sadly, the presidential instruction are now to "drill, baby, drill"…
This tool, DNS-collector, seems interesting.
Do some #dns people have feedback about it?
Or perhaps alternative/additional tools to try?
I suppose #dnstap (or @PowerDNS streams) is the most efficient way to collect data.

Earlier, I saw here a discussion about the origin of "." as #DNS label separator (involving @bortzmeyer or @jpmens ?) but I can’t find it back.
Anyway, this morning I had an idea: "What if this comes from VMS (VAX computers OS) that uses "." as path separator?"
-> Those machine were popular in ARPANet/early Internet days and the analogy between hierarchical file system and #DNS could make sense.
Was it a flash of genius or already part of the discussion?

12.11.2024 17:48Maybe @rosenz has a solution for this one?Does anybody knows how to remove the "Help" section (coming from Tips.app?) from #Spotlight on #macos #Sequoia?
I have a rather limited set of enabled search results but I still see those help entries in which I have no interest.
Hello, I would like to know if there is a way to toggle a Control Center icon in the Menu Bar from the #macos #Shortcuts app.
Use case would be to toggle Wi-Fi (resp. Bluetooth) and have the corresponding icon in Menu Bar only when it is off (so I can remember it is off).

So far only expansions for geolocation, #iMessage communication and emergency services are mentioned.
But what if Cupertino wanted to deploy its own #StarLink network only for its devices?

1. One of the best photo app is made in Europe (Vilnius, Lithuania)
2. One of the best photo app might become bundled and more integrated with #macos, #ios and/or the Photos app, maybe with a consumer/pro split (like #iMovie and #FinalCut ). Especially since we have been missing an #Aperture equivalent for long.
In any case, I think it is a big win for the #Apple ecosystem and its users.
My #MacBookPro M1 Pro 14” (18,4) being under repair, I am back with a #TouchBar 13” model from 2017 (14,2) for the week.
The #TouchBar is useless to me, the keyboard way less comfortable, the screen has big bezels and I miss #MagSafe.
But I must admit I enjoy the form factor and the lighter weight.
I hope that with the next design generation #Apple will provide the best blend of those two models.
I am even ready to resort to external dongle for #HDMI and #SDcard because I don’t use them much.
Hello Mastodon #DNS geeks.
Do you know a DNS zone with (almost) all kinds of DNS RRTYPE (and possibly wrong values) to use for a zone parser unit testing?
I know zonetransfer.me but while it has some nice test records, it does not have complete RRTYPE space coverage.
Thanks.
If you use @nlnetlabs #OpenDNSSEC, you may have faced or may help in solving my current (rather limited) issue: https://lists.opendnssec.org/pipermail/opendnssec-user/2024-July/004750.html

@pgl raised the question a year ago (https://labs.ripe.net/author/pgl/the-joy-of-txt/) but I don’t know whether there is a definitive answer.
(currently writing a catalog zone parser and would like to know how to interpret group properties TXT RRSETs…)
#dns question about multi-string TXT records: #rfc7208 section 3.3 says they shall be concatenated w/o space.
Is this applicable only to #spf records?
Looking at #rfc9432 (catalog zones) section 4.3.2.1 the group example "operator-y" "bar" seem to suggest this shall be interpreted as some sort of key/value (e.g. “operator-y=bar” or “operator-y bar”) where “operator-ybar” would not make any sense.
Neither #rcf1035 nor #rfc1464 mention multi-string TXT records.
Hello @ripencc, I have trouble accessing atlas.ripe.net (atlas-ui.ripe.net / 193.0.6.158 / 2001:67c:2e8:22::c100:69e) on ports 80/tcp (HTTP) and 443/tcp (HTTPS) and hence the #RIPE #Atlas API since around 40 min (from at least two vantage points).
I’d like to test globally using some probes, but…
After a year of my @ripencc #atlas hardware probe (id 35375) being down, I finally set up a new software probe (id 1008292) to run in a small #debian 12 VM.
I simply followed the instructions below that just worked: https://github.com/RIPE-NCC/ripe-atlas-software-probe/blob/master/INSTALL.rst#to-create-a-deb-for-debian-or-debian-based-distros
Long overdue…
