Watching Star Trek TOS, I think I've found the "peak Red Shirt curse” episode : https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/That_Which_Survives_(episode) . (S03E17). Usually a red shirt's demise happens after he beams down on the planet du jour with the rest of the crew. In this one, the poor schmuck is operating the transporter, and as the away team beams down, a woman appears, touches him, and he dies 🤷♂️. #startrek #startrektos #redshirt .

Just saw Captain America Brave New World and it's really very good. The people complaining that Sam is a normal human being with a cool suit and no superpowers are missing the point, as the fact he's just that is a central point of the movie.

The only good thing I'd take from it was Sasha Calle as Suoergirl. And Michael Keaton, because, well, Michael Keaton. But as far as multiverse/other actors playing same character, Spider-Man No Way Home did it way better.

Watching a video and moving to another spot is guaranteed to freeze the video. I wonder what's the underlying cause.

29.1.2025 18:02Yay, Mythic Quest S4 is here 😄Stuff I've learned in my current refactoring of an iOS Broadcast Extension :
- good ol' Unix named pipes (aka fifo) are really good for transferring data between extension and app
- watch for autoreleasepools, when app goes in background autoreleased objects won't be released very often and extension's memory will balloon and reach limit (50MB) quite quickly.

It seems Xcode will try to go over WiFi no matter if the device is cable-connected ? In any case it's a real shame that Apple would accept to ship that.

Turns out you have to wrap read() into an autoreleasepool. Weird limitation to have in Swift.

Just now I got a message telling me that the forums for the SqueezeBox were moving, and it took me a long while to remember I had one of these many years ago, one of the first music streamers with a server and (if I recall correctly), Perl-based firmware (server was in Perl too). RCA (and optical ?) output to plug it into your HiFi set. Good device as I recall, I think I dropped it when I moved to mac.
