Content warning:Mild early spoiler for "Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow" by Gabrielle Zevin #FridayReads #AmReading #gaming
"She went to all of their usual Harvard Square haunts: the movie theater, the library, the Coop, the Mexican place, the video store in the Garage, the bookstore, the other bookstore, the other other bookstore..."
I was lured in by the gaming angle, but Sam and Sadie's relationship is surprisingly the best thing about it so far. 👍🏽👍🏽

Just as I was starting to feel better and getting back to running regularly again, I had a stroke in June 2021. While scary, it also led to some healthy life adjustments that saw me lose (and keep off) ~30lbs, and eventually get back to running regularly again.
I ran the Ashenfelter 8k today at a 7:56/mile pace, my best since 2017! 🦃🏃🏽🎉

#MarvelSnap is great and full of possible dick moves. Yondu in Bar Sinister might be one of the dickiest! 😬 😂
Sorry, not sorry.

Yondu in Bar Sinister might be one of the dickiest! 😬 😂Sorry, not sorry.Between research for Comics Plus (aka, the day job) and many hours of the wonderful Mangasplaining podcast, I’ve been able to zero in on manga that are most likely to be up my alley without putting too big a dent in my wallet. As a result, it has become the majority of what I’ve read and enjoyed this year.
I wrote a little about that journey, and a few series I'm enjoying.

Still curating what I follow there, but it's quickly replaced a lot of the value I was getting from , as well as fully replacing Instapaper and Revue's article folder.
Took a quick look at HIVE to reserve my name, but don't see myself putting any energy there anytime soon. There's a lot of potential upside here still to be explored, and I'm definitely not looking for another mindless consumption app.
Catch-22: I don't want to get too engaged until I find a good instance to move to, but that's turning out to be harder than I thought it would be. Paralysis by analysis!

I'm a little concerned Black Twitter is going to run into legal issues with its name.
I'm worried Writing Exchange could devolve into the worst version of itself if Twitter truly goes under and indie authors get desperate about promoting themselves.
Wandering Shop remains intriguing, though.

One of the issues with a federated social network like Mastodon is users need to be sure their instance isn’t going to disappear overnight. This has happened a number of occasions we've seen, and we want to ease your mind in that regard should you choose Fosstodon.

"The Wandering Shop is an instance initially geared for the science fiction and fantasy community but open to anyone. Our local timeline should have the feel of a coffee shop at a good convention."

"Remember when you first heard about Black twitter and thought it was actually a separate website? Was that just me?"
If you're into #comics or #manga — or just want to understand why they're such a big deal these days — find yourself a comfortable seat and play this webinar on a big(gish) screen.
It's super long, but @debaoki, Frederick Jones, and Kae Winters had way too many great insights and experiences to share to arbitrarily cut them off, and the end result is definitely one of the best sessions I've ever participated in — in person or online.

Between ongoing ambivalence about the US, not wanting to support Qatar in any way, Fox Sports being one of the few streaming services I don't have, and the loss of — the World Cup is way off my radar this year. It's especially frustrating because, in 2014, the Cup is what finally got me into soccer, and it became my favorite sport.
Fortunately, there's Football Manager 23, where I'll get to redeem #RBNY instead.

1. Do NOT try to recreate your experience here. Despite surface similarities, it's not the same.
2. Follow judiciously. Don't feel obligated to follow the same people you did over there. Think hard about your ideal experience, then create it from scratch. Slowly.
3. Don't get comfortable; this likely won't be your permanent instance.
4. Observe, read & boost more than you post at first.
