More AI Overviews in the SERPs, this time for music. I haven't noticed this until recently, but when searching for a song, there's a "Behind the music" section which contains AI Overviews. At least there are links to publishers there! :)

How much does Google want you using AI Mode? I covered how the Google Search app first had a prominent shortcut for AI Mode. Then Google moved it to the main search bar, which was big. Well, now I see it *in both places*. There's both a shortcut AND it's in the main search bar.

Jarvis Rising: I have shared many times that we are heading towards Jarvis (a true AI assistant that's with you all the time). Well, here's an early glimpse via Google's AR glasses (presented at TED2025). It has a memory btw, and can help you based on what it's seen... Wow. It found her hotel keycard... it remembered the book she saw earlier, it's translating signs for her, it's navigating her to various locations, and more.

DO NOT GO AND CHANGE YOUR INTERNATIONAL SEO SETUP BASED ON GOOGLE'S CCTLD CHANGES. Nothing has changed with how Search works... Do not redirect your ccTLDs to your .com because Google is doing that. And don't suddenly change your hreflang setup based on this either.

Again, nothing has changed with how hreflang works and how Google determines what should rank for a specific language, country, or language-country combination. Don't overthink this... :)

New Reviews tab -> TikTok takes on Google Maps by surfacing reviews in the comments tab

"As TikTok continues to build out its search experience, the social network is now surfacing reviews for select places right within the comments tab of a video. The new feature, which appears to be a test, eliminates the need to conduct a new search or open Google when you come across a place on TikTok and want to learn more about it."

You can now compare *hourly* data from GSC as major updates rolls out -> One of my most popular blog posts is how to view hourly traffic in GA4 so you can see impact from major algorithm updates as they are rolling out. Well, now we have hourly *GSC* data that we track the same way. But, you'll need to use the GSC API.

But don't worry, I just published a tutorial for how to quickly compare hourly GSC clicks and impressions data using Analytics Edge and the GSC API.

More SERP Inception. As I was testing a query this morning based on Barry's latest post, I came across "People also consider"... which is SPONSORED. Barry covered this in Feb, but it's another great ex of SERP Inception.

First, who is sponsoring those links, & why? They lead to a fresh SERP with more ads and yet ANOTHER "People also consider" block that's SPONSORED. Clicking another link there leads to another fresh SERP with an AI Overview. I mean, what is going on here?!?

At least some blue links are showing up in AIOs now (in addition to links to fresh SERPs...)

I believe Google addressed that in their statement to SEL:
"Google’s systems prioritize linking to third party websites within the AI Overview response when Google has a high confidence that those websites will help the user find the information they’re seeking, a Google spokesperson told me."

Interested in favicons that go missing in Google Search? I just updated my blog post covering the topic based on helping another site owner last week. It was an interesting situation... What appeared to be a 96x96 pixel favicon (which is fine) WAS NOT 96 pixels wide. After downloading it, I noticed the graphic was only *75* pixels wide on a 96 pixel background.

You can read more about this in my post:

From Google: “To help people more easily explore topics and discover relevant websites, we’ve added links to some terms within AI Overviews when our systems determine it might be useful. I cover several examples of this happening, and even included how this happened with my recent post about Reddit AI translations! So yes, it's happening to me too. :) I also cover how Google uses nofollow as a hint now... That changed in 2019, so your nofollowed links might actually be passing signals, including PageRank, to destination urls anyway. So again, please read my post, link normally when sites earn those links.
