Yeah, that shit's not gonna fly in the EU at all, to say nothing of the PR nightmare of "legitimate" use somehow triggering such a mechanism during launch or over the holidays.

I still believe Yuzu et al were asking for trouble and did larger emulation and preservation efforts a disservice, but Nintendo still has little to gain from escalating.

Privately, I've been replaying the PS3 version of Demon's Souls, cranked up to 60fps and 1080p. It holds up tremendously, but then, I've always been a sucker for FromSoft's little lighting and material tricks that make their games look more impressive than they technically are, e.g. all the intense glow in the aforementioned game or Sif's fur in Dark Souls.

Again, if even the big atomic lizard with his undeniable connection to Japan's WW2 trauma can merely gesture at a notion of guilt towards the victims of that war, I don't expect Godo Kisaragi to sit his daughter down and tell her that his generation absolutely wasn't the good guys.

...as a kid who grew up in (West) Germany, while I might ever so slightly sympathize, I can also not deny how being useful buffers against the Soviets afforded most of the previous Axis nations a pretty prosperous second half of the 20th century.

That's why Yuffie's story fascinates me, because it's clunky Japanese revisionism that has the potential to say something poignant about the repeated seduction of new generations to narratives of past glory.

Okay, not sure if this is a strictly a mental health or specifically ADHD thing, but what's currently blocking me from starting FF7 Rebirth is that I still haven't played the DLC of Remake, a side story featuring Yuffie Kisaragi.

I like Yuffie. A lot. Her backstory is one of what seems to be one of the less discussed aspects of FF7, even though it's just as much inspired by real world events as the warnings about corporatism and environmental destruction.

Echoes of Wisdom has become one of those games I can't really summon the motivation for mid-playthrough.

It's cute, the free-form puzzles are fun, but they didn't really have a good idea for combat and all the characters just waffle on endlessly about shit we already know.

And even graded on a curve, all the contrived shit Nintendo pulls in making Zelda the protag, but still not really the hero in her own story ... really fucking over this juvenile aversion to feminist cooties.
