People in my neighborhood held a “Blessing of the Backpacks” event today. At the community pool.

It’s exactly what it sounds it like. People bring their kiddos’ backpacks and everyone prays over these material possessions to bless them. They were not blessing kiddos, just backpacks.

Apparently small-town Southerners have no sense of irony.
