Yesterday I watched spawning salmon in Piper's Creek, a short stream in the midst of urban Seattle. There were at least a dozen big fish digging holes with vigorous tail-wagging and working their way up the tiny stream.

I was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest not far from the ocean, but I have never before witnessed salmon spawning.
