I haven't noticed this in a year+ because my ids are all cuids but *yikes* do not use Verdant in production lol.

My regression test suites keep growing...

I've been working on Verdant for more than a year and it's been tempting to try to advertise it and get some clout in local-first. But honestly, I'm such an amateur, I read basically no literature on CRDTs, so I've been terrified of anyone but me using this code.

Today I fixed two massive consistency errors that have plagued gnocchi.club for months. There's probably more. But my test suites are getting better and better. Someday... I'll remove that "do not use" label...

It's been valuable to just marinate in this app for a year, using it nearly every day. I didn't realize I had assumed a separate 'cooking mode' was needed because recipe pages are normally chaotic and distracting with ads and long personal stories. Mine aren't.

Making this app has been helpful for learning product design. Choosing which features to include and why, then how they integrate into the rest of the system. As usual, things moved quick at first, while lately changes have to be made more slowly and thoughtfully. But I'm proud of how well all these features still seem to coordinate into a whole product.

My sense is that for "scaled up" products and venture-backed teams, it's much harder to achieve this cohesion while chasing funding.

I've been building my groceries app, Gnocchi.club, for almost a year now! It feels like it's mostly stabilized in features, but the pantry experience was always underwhelming.

This month I remade it entirely. Now the app surfaces info about your foods and purchasing habits more easily. This data has been in the system to power recommendations, but is now more useful for answering your questions, like, "do I have baking soda, and how long ago did I buy it?"
