So 99% of patients in this situation would simply pay the bill, letting the BSV off the hook. In a perfect world, the ambulance bill processor would include a note in their bill stating how evil insurance companies are, and to call your local BSV to have them pay their rightful share. But the bill processor has no skin in the game in terms of being fair. They’ll get their pound of flesh.

The important thing is that I still received a bill from the ambulance company because BSV decided that being BSVs was a financially better path.

The bill I received from the ambulance company showed the full amount less what the insurance company had paid. To most people, they would think they were required to pay the balance.

Yay, I’m off the hook for $1100 (though I have to pay $108 as copay/deductible). Sounds like a win for everyone right?

I had taken an ambulance to the ER in March, and kind of dreaded the arrival of the bill. Turns out the local fire department (who was great) charged my insurance company $1500, of which the insurance company paid roughly $400. Fire department (which outsources all this billing naturally) sends me a bill for the balance. Balance billing is a plague, so I call up my insurance company (who will be forthwith referred to as “Blood sucking vampires” or BSV.

I’ve tried using Chessable to improve, but the things that have helped me the most are videos from Daniel Naroditsky and Eric Rosen. Eric comes across as the kindest guy on YT, while Danya is more competitive. Lately I’ve been watching Alex Banzea who makes pretty good YT videos.
