This post is an open love letter to my #bicycle.
It's a titanium frame built by Bill Davidson, who has been crafting similar bikes for almost 50 years here in Seattle. It has one front chainring, because I just don't have any use for a front derailleur. The extra-wide casette has one of those new fancy narrow chains and electronic shifting. (Which kind of makes me nervous because it's difficult to service by myself, but for a couple years now it's been fine.) It has silent hubs made by Onyx - probably my favorite parts of the bike. The wheels are HED - nice and light but I run them with tubes - and the tires are Conti - it's funny how much they improve the experience. I was inspired by Devine's bike page https://wiki.xxiivv.com/site/bike.html -- maybe someday my bike will be as cool, with stickers from around the world.
I've been riding pretty consistently but I don't Strava or anything - quantifying my progress kind of takes me out of the reverie in the moment.
It's sunny outside today but I didn't even go for a ride - I took these photos instead. Not sure whether I regret that now or not... but I hope to see your #cycling content if you'd like to share.

Interesting news - the direct-join model might achieve critical mass, or it might not. They're explicitly saying "well we have to start somewhere", and it's hard to argue with that.

It is a novella-length story of women surviving across multiple generations - fighting for their lives against the environment and against violence and societal limitations that men impose. A native woman in the Pacific Northwest in ~1900 through an artist in the 1970s. Mother-daughter lineage and relationships. The prose is poetic, and there's even a bit of actual poetry thrown in, which is fictionally written by a main character. The story is written in a non-linear way, with fractured timelines that the reader then puts back together.
LeGuin's estate is apparently quite generous when it comes to small publishers producing limited-run copies of her works. This one was printed in an edition of just 150 copies by Winter Texts, in Port Townsend, WA.
(I think I recently saw another small press here on the fedi is bringing out another book by LeGuin, having gotten similar permission from the estate...?)

I feel like this painting is both still in progress and also like realistically I'm never going to touch it again. Probably should move on to a new one.

14.2.2025 05:36three arrows through timeThe vibes in the first installment of this game were pretty immaculate, so I'm interested to check out this new sequel. It's a deeper, more literary cyberpunk? Story-heavy with gameplay on the simple end of the spectrum, so not for everyone. Solid visual design and great soundtracks.

My review of the hospital experience: 1.5 stars. One of those is for that one nice nurse at the end who actually listened. Now for some recuperative movie watching!

This post is some good old fashioned fishing for sympathy; I thank you for yours in advance! Typing on dilaudid is hard. Also too many exclamation points in this. Took a photo for you but angry nurse said it was illegal and watched while I deleted it.

It's not that often that video game stuff gets preserved like this, so it's very cool when it happens!
