When my hair texture changed after a hormone shift, I joined some curly hair groups on FB to try and better understand how to handle my hair. The number of cisgender women experiencing dysphoria over the exact same experience— hair texture changes from a hormone shift— is amazing. Im sure there are cis men too but they just arent very active in these groups for reasons that I think most of us can intuit.

I just wish more folks understood that experience as dysphoria. Hair is a very gender-laden experience. Its why wigs for cancer patients and hair implants are things. Its just that cis folks by and large have no framework for understanding their own gender experiences, especially their dysphoric ones; they just know that something “feels bad”, much like some little trans kids before they can verbalize that they’re trans. If cis folks could actually talk about their dysphoria and the ways in which their gender experiences impact their daily lives, we could really get somewhere with them. Maybe.

My new job is much less physically taxing but much more mentally taxing so I've been mostly just potato-ing during the week. I have found a friend of mine willing to help update the TLP website with the Spanish edition so that's pretty exciting. I've been spending my downtime playing hanging with my chosen fam and then playing Genshin Impact between bouts of chores at home with the babes. Losing my extra weekend day has been difficult but I think I'm starting to get adjusted. I'll do better during the summer when I have more energy. Being heliotropic sucks sometimes, but this is the part of the year where I start feeling alive again, so I'm excited for that. What have you folks been up to?

I think cis people would be a whole lot healthier if they understood their own moments of gender dysphoria and gender euphoria. Like, those experiences are not trans exclusive. The feeling of joy at “dress go spinny” is the same whether its a cis woman or a trans woman or a nonbinary person or a guy who loves dresses. My dysphoria around the way my hair texture changed when I was forced by capitalism off hormones is the same dysphoria as the cis woman in the same curly hair group unable to cope with her hair texture changing after having a child, or the young cis man who lost his curls going through puberty. And do not ask me about cis men generally because like, 110% of their problem is their dysphoria and lack of appropriate gender euphoria due to how we’ve socially constructed gender *especially* in the US, and they do not wear it well; we can all see that.

The only thing I can think of is that the powers that be think if they clear out and consolidate the nursing homes, they can force those...

The only thing I can think of is that the powers that be think if they clear out and consolidate the nursing homes, they can force those care workers into positions of caring for the C19-disabled working population instead so we can keep the failing economy going long enough for TPTB to insulate themselves as much as possible before climate catastrophe? Which is not going to work. Not only will those care workers just leave in droves to go elsewhere, TPTB cannot escape climate catastrophe. Its one of the things bringing me joy in this moment— knowing that they too will be ended by their scheming.

I'm also a reader, though I'm currently on a break due to recently changing jobs and lacking the mental bandwidth. I read over 50 books last year which is a personal adulthood record. Mostly this is in #audiobook format, as it's easier for me to cruise through them at work or doing chores. But I have to do most non-fiction in physical for retention. I track over on #StoryGraph (though I'm in the middle of converting my records from physical to audio).

I'm also into #crafts. I know a lot about #CandleMaking, am mediocre at #sewing, and love #gardening. Unfortunately, being bound to an apartment means that I'm mostly into watching other people craft right now and tending my growing army of houseplants. Show me what you're working on!

I'm also in the process of converting to #Judaism. My partner and I have gone on much of our spiritual journey together and both had the distinct feeling upon investigating Judaism that we were coming home. I'm very excited about this, as I've been lowkey fascinated by Judaism since I was a child, but I'm trying to be cool about it. I know it's kind of A Thing right now for all us transes to convert to being #Jewish but my partner and I ending up here in this moment is coincidental (though, to be fair, the parallels are there for anyone who looks with interest in seeing them). Again, trying to be cool about it.
