@vishnu Sometime I wanted to hear about how you’ve set up Mastodon. Self-hosted or are you paying for it as a service? I assume (because of the subdomain) that it’s not tied to Jekyll, but that’s my dream… all mastodon posts as markdown, side-by-side with blog posts.

@daveverwer I went looking for any roller coaster reactions to VisionOS, and I couldn't find anything overly negative on here or on the bird site. I get you didn't want to link to negativity, but all the developer reactions I've seen have been pretty positive. I wish you'd been a bit more specific in your intro last Friday.

I was also quite confused by the "windows in 3D space” comment, since it's so obviously capable of full immersion. Would you care to elaborate on that?

Sometime last week, I wondered how possible it is to do programmatic audio generation in Swift, and searched the @SwiftPackageIndex.

I instantly found AudioKit (github.com/AudioKit/), and played with it a bit. It's now on my shortlist of projects (along with Euclid – github.com/nicklockwood/Euclid) to find an excuse to include in a future project.

I’m hosting a session at this year about the fediverse, Mastodon, and ActivityPub. I guess i should have promoted this earlier (before session voting was closed 😂), but if you’re going, maybe I’ll see you there! I’ll also have a couple of physical board games in the arcade area.

I'm so sad now when I see a cool post on Twitter and come here to search for that person and find nothing.

It's silly, I still have my Twitter account, and I'm still logged into the browser, so I'm still giving that monster clicks. But I balk at liking any post, or following someone new for some reason.

Is Javascript a stringly-typed language?

In Swift or Objective-C, I always flag any code in a PR that relies on string comparison for its functionality as "stringly typed". Even developers who haven't heard the term generally know exactly what I mean for them to fix.

I just realized this morning that most Javascript snippets I've seen have this problem. I think it may be endemic to the language.

I'm not sure how at odds these goals are.

The ultimate purpose is to move my content creation off of 3rd party sites and services, back to blogging on my own site(s), while still being readable & consumable elsewhere. This was always possible with RSS (and I guess I should add RSS to my wishlist – though I don't use it anymore), but I think Mastodon (and its ilk) are bringing this idea back in a big way.

I want to control my content and I want it to be easily portable.

I've been thinking a lot lately about my wishlist for new blogging software. I want it to support interoperability with mastodon and the larger ActivityPub universe. I also want it to be largely static, and have the content separated from the presentation in a way that leaves the content human-readable in its original form. (So something like Jekyll, where the content is created and stored as markdown.)

I didn't really use any of Apple's dev tools until 2008, when I started doing iOS development. I was a LAMP developer before that, so used to my tools being free. Interesting to think about how Apple making their tools free was not the norm at the time.

Are there any sites that use your mastodon log in? OAuth style? I feel like I saw one, maybe one of the twitter follower searches? Is this an easy thing to do? Documented anywhere?

I'm musing on a service like Bookwyrm but for movies. (I just started actually using my Letterboxd account this year.) Or maybe one for games.

Every once in a while I log into facebook again, (always in a private window), usually because I've gotten some notification about some post a friend has tagged me in. This time around, I simply cannot find the thing I was tagged in.

It strikes me that surfacing content you want to see is exactly the opposite of their mission. If I could just dip in for a minute, what's my incentive to stay?

So… I’ve been spending a lot of time on Mastodon. Come to the realization that while, yes, it’s better than spending a lot of time on other social media sites, it’s still social media. I need better awareness to be able to enforce a maximum. I’ve now set an iOS ScreenTime limit for the app, just like I had already set up for Twitter. (And I’m going to close all my browser tabs!)

Here’s hoping this helps with productivity.
