Awesome work from Rotem Sorek lab in our department:
Rotem's lab & others found this past decade >150 bacterial defense mechanisms against phages.
This new work, led by Erez Yirmiya, explores phage *anti-defense* mechanisms, and it's really cool!

But to no avail
It was a really good experience up till now, and I will miss it, and the people I worked with.

I did so because, in their words "it might not be appropriate for us as an organization to make broad statements on social media regarding the ongoing situation, or send out a mass email to the BP community."
I have been tgere since 2016. I truly believe in their mission to help with “The reproducibility crisis”.
So, I am really sad to leave.

I created a set of plasmids with T7 promoter & poly-A tail. my gene (~4kb) is inserted in between. I have several variations of the same gene. In all cases, I get 2 products: the correct one and a shorter (~2.8kb) one.
Any idea why? How do I solve it?
I use the HiScribe T7 High Yield RNA Synthesis Kit (NEB) with 3"-O-Me-m7G(5")ppp(5")G RNA Cap Structure Analog.
IVT for GFP works well with just one product of correct size.

Start date ~Jan 2024.
We are looking for someone interested in deciphering the molecular mechanism of mRNA transfer, by performing a CRISPR/siRNA/drug screen, and using molecular biology & biochemistry tools.
