I search for coordinates of places from 100 years ago, from the lost past. Heavily using Messtischblats, Karte des Deutschen Reiches, sometimes Spezialkarte(n) K. u. K. Monarchie. A side project with the working title Flora Silesiae. History has changed the lands of Lower Silesia several times. Somewhere between #rstats and #qgis, trying to find the light (in style) and easy way to show the occurrences of the species. The dots are heavy, so probably no-go. The species usually are limited to northern hemisphere, however there will be exceptions from NZ, Australia and Southern America. I like the north pole viewpoint, it reminds the maps from Hulten&Fries atlas, but.. The hexagon in 4326 is so obvious.. Meh. Looking for inspirations :) :rstats: &

Openstreetmap @openstreetmap is a great project. I became addicted to the project/community over 10 years ago; first as a mapper, then as a data consumer. It's a great source of open data: starting with highways, urban vs country areas, different kind of shops, to such details like tactile paving or kerbs mapped today by @robinlovelace :). One of the sets of data is related to cycle infrastructure. Like those very disconnected cycleways in Wrocław, Poland. vs. all highways. :osm:

Concept of water surface smoothing: 1 - generate DTM from LAS. 2 - generate delineated water areas with min|mean altitude. 3 - filter out water points from LAS and rasterize/vectorize it. 4 - intersect 2 with 3, add altitude to vector, rasterize back; 5 - replace altitude in DTM with altitude from 4. #rstats #rspatial, #gis @rstats. There still is a bit of area for refinements, but any comments or hints are appreciated.
