I got a huge ego boost this week.

I'd asked DriveThruRPG to send an email to all the people who had downloaded my previous games letting them know about the Light Fantasy Kickstarter I'm currently running.

When I got the confirmation that the email had been sent, I was amazed to discover that it went to over 12,000 people.

That means my previous games (Dark Dungeons, FASERIP, etc.) have a much bigger audience than I ever realised.

It's the game for those of us who want the simplicity of older rulesets but want to play in a more modern style rather than with the old-school assumptions that normally accompany those rulesets.

1 week of putting off having to make a Kickstarter video because the prospect is terrifying...

3 hours and 7 YouTube tutorials to work out how to use the video editing software I just downloaded...

60 minutes to shoot 25 minutes of camera footage...

10 hours (and another 2 tutorials) to edit it down to 3 usable minutes...

Now I just have 3 weeks of stressing over it before the Kickstarter launches...

I just need to make a video, and that seems to be the hardest thing to do.

The thought of standing in front of a camera horrifies me. It's weird, because I don't have a problem at all with public speaking. I'll happily stand in front of a crowd and talk. But I think that's because I'm not seeing or hearing myself.

I don't understand how people can casually photograph or film themselves and post it on social media without a care in the world.

Picking out a single favourite game is really hard, since my group prefer to switch systems for each campaign rather than playing the same thing over and over again.

Having said that, we do keep going back to D&D, Call of Cthulhu, and FASERIP Marvel again and again, so I'll share the honour between those three.

It's no coincidence that I'm made retroclones of D&D and FASERIP rather than other games (Call of Cthulhu has never needed one, since it's barely changed).

I'm excluding homebrew systems that no-one other than me or a few friends have played, for obvious reasons.

The most obscure *published* RPG I've played is probably Lost Souls, an early '90s game where you play ghosts helping other ghosts finish their unfinished business so they can move on to an afterlife, in a last-ditch attempt to gain some good karma and improve your own afterlife/reincarnation prospects when you get there.

The system was awful but I loved the premise.

It's memorable for all the wrong reasons, but my favourte encounter was in Rolemaster.

The party were on a ship and there was a vampire.

Long story short, they found the vampire, and his reaction was to cast a stealthy charm on them, fumble the spell, roll maximum on the fumble table, and fry his brains.

OOC everyone knew what had happened (I rolled openly), but IC the party accused someone of being a vampire and the person just straight up dropped dead in front of them.
