So I wrote this post on Pythag Triples and the connections to parabolas, and then realized that they also connect to complex numbers in an awesome way. https://mrwaddell.net/blog/2024-09-23-pythagorean-triples-and-parabolas/ But, does anyone know of where I can follow up to learn more about the reasons WHY PTs are quadratic (besides the obvious squaring the complex numbers)? Thank you! #Math #maths #mtbos #ITeachMath

I have a uni student who would like to interview (via zoom) someone who incorporates Art into their math classes. If you are willing to be interviewed on this topic, can you let me know? DM me your contact info and I will pass it along to her.

Trying to post a bunch before NCTM. This is a compilation post of 20 different ways to solve Quadratics. Shout out to Pat Bellew, @DavidKButler and Po-Shen Loh. I also describe how some international teachers teach the Quad Formula. https://mrwaddell.net/blog/2024-09-23-different-ways-of-solving-quadratics/ #ITeachMath #MTBoS #maths #MathTeaching

Shout out to Francis Su at the end, because he did it better (no surprise there.) https://mrwaddell.net/blog/2024-09-22-visualizing-imaginary-roots/ Some interesting outcomes of thinking this way, for sure.

I was asked by a colleague whom I work closely with to write a letter of support for a sabbatical. Is there anything I can do to help this person in my letter? I have never written one, and want to make sure it is the best I can do for him. Thank you for any advice. #advice #academic
