Our paper on single-trial #EEG / #MEG with hidden multivariate patterns is now accepted in #Imaging #Neuroscience 🥳🥳
Reviewers were very helpful to make the manuscript clearer and more convincing 🥹

OK Google, I know what your intentions were with that message, but this is uncanny

I'm more than available as a reviewer for the topics of #EEG #Decision #psychophysics #chronometry #EMG
I would also be ready to do public post-print reviews for initiatives such as Open Research Europe.
3.9.2024 07:37Dear editors of #DiamondOpenAccess journals,I'm more than available as a reviewer for the topics of #EEG #Decision #psychophysics...I admit... I sinned... I opened an account on bluesky.
I get the same old Twitter impression, but that's not necessarily a good thing anymore to me. There seems to be more people of my former Twitter timeline, yet they are not very active.
I think this method is filling a very deep need for #cognitive #neuroscience researcher using EEG/MEG as single-trial time estimates are not only desirable but absolutely necessary (see Figure 2 of the preprint). I tag along some people that I think would be interested

In the paper we show three example applications on publicly available datasets:
- the P3
- the N2pc
- and a #decision-making dataset
We show how the exploratory decision-making dataset contains the same component as the N2pc and the P3 dataset, therefore arguably measuring single-trial potentials relating to attentional orientation and decision-making!

This highly changes the representation of an average ERP as there is (ideally) no more time-jitter as we can center on event time at each trial.
See this example where, for a simulated electrode, we only inserted half-sines in the time-series of each epoch (left plot), plot the average stimulus centered ERP (top) and the HMP-event centered ERP (bottom)
The hidden multivariate pattern method (HMP) assumes that single trials events in the E/MEG signal are 1) coherent transient topographies recurring across trials 2) in sequence after stimulus onset up to the response (e.g. visual before motor) and 3) that the time distances between events (loosely) follow a probability distribution.
HMP then estimates the number of events needed and their topographies and time distributions to get the probability of each event at each time point in each trial

TLDR: with the hidden multivariate pattern method (HMP), using a few assumptions and the E/#MEG signal during the reaction time, we can:
- recover how many task related events appear in the #EEG
- get their SINGLE-TRIAL time location and therefore also voltage activity 🤯
Dear #eeg community I need your help!
In the review process of our paper on single trial ERPs (https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2024.02.13.580102v1) we are looking for a nice public dataset with:
- EEG or MEG
- Reaction times based task (max around one second)
- preprocessed (preferably with MNE)
Any ideas? For now, I see LIMO and ERP-core, but I'll only create the #MNE pipeline if I don't have other choices...

Does anyone know of an online plateform (e.g. wooclap) allowing to record the reaction time of the students? That would be a nice opening to RT distributions.
I guess I could always use online experimenting plateforms but I don't know any allowing an easy connexion and a rapid collection of the results 😔

I recently gave a talk on how I preprocess #EEG data using #mne and as some of you might be interested I just shared the repo on Github: https://github.com/GWeindel/hsmm_mvpy/blob/main/tutorials/preprocessing_example/Template_preprocessing.ipynb
Feel free to ask questions or provide feedback :)

I accepted to review a paper for an #elsevier owned journal two weeks ago. Seeing the recent amazing move of #Neuroimage editorial board (see boosts), I am wondering whether I should still give this review to be nice to the editor and the authors or whether I should withdraw from my role to protest and also encourage editors/authors to stop dealing with #Elsevier journals 🤔
