Everything there is to be mad and dismayed about aside, sometimes this modern world is miraculous. My wife has an ancient Schwinn stationary bike she inherited from her mother. Thing is built like a tank. But the right pedal was slipping. Took it off and the pin securing it had a big groove worn in it. Bit of a specialized part, would an internet search would turn something up? Lo and behold, I could order the exact replacement. 5 minutes to reinstall the pedal and it’s back to its former glory.

Question for the DH Pedagogy folks. I’m helping a student who wants to set up some web based services as a self-guided project. He’s a newbie at non static web stuff. Has some programming experience. He’s looking at AWS, specifically Lambda to handle the back end. My hesitation is: I feel like if you’ve learned how to do something on AWS, you’ve learned how to do it on AWS, but it’s not very generalizable, and you maybe haven’t gained much insight into the mechanics of how these things work.
