10.5.2024 23:43#Aurora B doesn't often visit DevonThere's a recording here of a webinar I did on 'Writing as passing and the role of generative AI', a riff on the Turing test and student writing/identities. https://www.ucl.ac.uk/ioe/events/2024/mar/writing-passing-and-role-generative-ai. Big thanks to Ayanna and the team at UCL for hosting.

2.4.2024 21:33A new series of dialogues about generative AI, with @ThePlatformUni (Mark Carrigan) and myself, plus guests. http://generativedialogues.org/I recently produced a personal list of 'critical AI' resources that may also be of value to other educators. Unhelpfully it was at the end of a longer post, which is where it stays for now, but when I have time I will produce a separate set of links for educators and organisational leaders who are interested in these ideas.

It will be trained on the contents of X. I can't facilitate that project, so sadly I will no longer be posting to friends and colleagues through the bird. I want to pursue the idea that 'artificial ingelligence' is essentially a privatisation project. It depends on an idea of intelligence that is *essentially* managerial and acquisative - and this is important for understanding how it is also a racialised, gendered, and labour disempowering project. https://helenbeetham.substack.com/p/ai-and-the-privatisation-of-everything

Everything is fine.So glad I got out my take on the WAG dispute resolution ('writers two, terminators nil') before @pluralistic. bc if I hadn't mine would just read like a dumber, less cool version of 'what he said'. Essentially: the WAG deal bans paying writers less if AI is in the loop, removing the business case and relegating AI to an expensive warm-up exercise for writers (with added legal risks): https://doctorow.medium.com/how-the-writers-guild-sunk-ais-ship-236575979d5c
