We had a cowboy and cowhand switch roles, a long distance relationship where both of them may or may not be vegetarians, an audience member was a very good sport as a day in their life was shown. The toughest round of 'Job Interview' I have ever seen. The orientation of toilet paper was discussed in Shakespearean fashion, and the Mayor of a small town deals with Amazon, fake pumpkins in a pumpkin fest, and the Good and Bad Spirit Halloween Shops.

- Summer semester is kicking my ass. Make the hurting stop.
- My building things queue (lego kits and mechanical keyboards) has backed up completely. The queue is too big!
-Playing Guild Wars 2 again. I enjoy this game and also regret this decision.
- April improv show was great. Our July show is next week.

Cannon Keys Obliterated 75 #keyboard in champagne / rose gold. Keycaps are MelGeek (MG) salmon. Switches used are Dukharo Pinks with a spring swap to something a little heavier. (57g) An older design, but with a few tweaks it turned out pretty nice. The color combo initially did not quite do it for me but has grown on me over time.

I'm looking for some guidance from the #infosec crowd. I found what I suspect is malware in support software for a commercially sold product. The suspect program is a driver/config tool for a custom keyboard I bought. You can grab the file from the Mfgr website and select "Driver for Paw 65". Virustotal came back with two hits and the web site is a not completely filled out. Some info is just template defaults.

Mechs on Deck 'Bacca 70'. This chonky #keyboard uses a sandwich mount (plate is held between the top and bottom of the case), sports a brass plate, a massive brass weight on the bottom. The look from the SA key cap set is a personal favorite. Switches are Gateron China Joy (CJs). I did swap the upper left and right keycaps after this photo was taken.To my knowledge less than 50 were made. There is also a ortholinear PCB option. Both PCBs support Cherry MX or Alps switches.

I am happy to report that my quest to resurrect an old Xeon workstation board is looking promising. I want to root around to see if I can find and fully populate the memory slots, but 24 gigs is more than fine for a Linux install. The replacement CPU cooler is keeping the processor below 40 deg C under load.(The original Intel cooler had busted mount clips.)

I really wanted this machine up and running for the I/O possibilities. (2x PCI33 slots, PATA and a floppy controller.)

Almost done soldering up BB65 #keyboard number two. Except I put one switch in the wrong spot in the bottom row and have to pull it and install it in the correct position. More annoyed because I checked the bottom row with caps and still missed it. (MechWild BB65 number 2: Gazzew LT switches (65g), cheapie white on black PBT set)

From the 'waste not' pile: A call for ideas on what I can use some old hardware for. I have a number of #Nvidia Tesla C1060 compute cards. According to Wikipedia these were from around 2009, have 4GB of memory, and supports up to #cuda 1.3.

I used to run one in a Seti at Home rig and it did a respectable job. 10-15 minutes on a work unit. That project is long gone far as I know.

Yesterday I started picking at a project for myself. I have a lab where we do bit shifting and have fun with LEDs that bounce back and forth. In that case there are 9 bits that control 10 LEDs.

In my effort to make it more interesting, I'm using 24 LEDs. I also want the result where the LEDs have a tail in relation to the lead LED. Program is half written and once I simulate it I'll put the hardware together. #8051 #asm

Grades are finally posted for the semester. Now to prepare for the next one. It's always something. 🤷

Welp, looks like my Peplink #router is nearing EOL for software support after a good run. Mfgr is still going to push critical fixes, but they made it clear it's on the way out. I could go the PFsense route, but I don't trust myself on my ability to configure and most importantly, secure, the device that isolates my network from the outside world. So any ideas on suppliers that support their products long term? Long term support and patches is something I care about.

Longish night streaming, but I got to the other side with the intended project(s). Both were #keyboard related. The first was a KeebsForAll Freebird TKL that I built up to help an improvisor in the troupe figure out his preferences. We had a starting point and I can tune things a little as he gets a chance to put some mileage on the board and help me understand what he does or does not like. I did have to stuff it with foam, but I'm pretty happy with the result.

Speaking of #keyboard s, I have found myself planning multiple builds for folks around me. I have a number of budgety 65% boards that I have been very slow to assemble ( #MechWild BB65). That is going to have to change because one of the planned recipients is leaving my workplace. I have a #keebsforall Freebird TKL that I'm building for an improvisor to try. Nothing like an old fashioned hard deadline to make things interesting. 😅

As #google continues to make #chrome less useful and hobbling extensions, the smart reaction is to start walking away from it and migrating to #firefox and bulking up on extensions to kill ads and improve overall security. This plan is great until you have webtools that don't work with Firefox. For me it is VIA (CanIUseVIA). It allows me to configure my fancy custom #keyboard and map the layout how I like it. Problem is the web interface only works with Chrome. The standalone app depreciated.
