Lovely skiing on some fresh snow in the Wagrain/Flachau area of Austria.#skiing #austria...After endless grey, foggy and wet days we eventually got a super blue sky.day today so we walked up my local hill (Brownthwaite Pike) straight from the house. It's not too high but gives great views across the Lune Valley to the Lake District. We also got a clear view of the local Bronze Age stone circle. Unfortunately the farmer whose land it is on will not allow you to visit it. A spectacular gorge (canyon if you prefer) but also spectacularly busy. We skipped walking up the river as there were just too many people for our liking and went walking in another area where we hardly saw anyone.

We skipped walking...We did a circular walk up Bleaklow Head and Upper Shelf Stones yesterday - two "English Nuttalls" (hills over 2000ft/609m). These are in the Peak District and not very mountainous to look at as it's basically Pennine moorland. Near the second summit are the remains of a USAF B-29 Superfortress which crashed there in low cloud in 1948 with the loss of all 13 crew.

Far better snow than the last trip (to Italy) 3 weeks ago.

This the Kambhorn (650m) on the Stokksnes peninsular in the SE. There's apparently a path down the scree from the ridge to the beach but it looks rather steep!

A very tough, steep ascent...Plenty of snow fell last night and first thing this morning but the weather improved and we were skiing by 10.30 then the day got better and better.
