i've learned an awful lot of languages. there are few i think are as entirely evil as R. it was clearly designed by sociopathic madmen bent on ruining the lives of CS undergrads.

1 - it doesn't necessarily throw any sort of error for accessing an array out of bounds.

2 - there are some insane scoping rules that make JS hoisting look like childsplay.

i sincerely hope i never have to touch this language ever again.

but i could hear my scottish friend correcting me with her pronunciation:

we became friends after a time, but in those early days i suspect she thought i was just another insufferable stupid american -- and she probably still does. LOL

i’m using copilot just because the xcode integration is painless — but i’m not sure it’s always giving the quality results i see in other tools.

i wanted to use a newish API from AppKit in Obj-C but didn’t know exactly how it worked and the docs are of course very spartan. so...

i wanted to use a newish API from AppKit in Obj-C but didn’t know exactly how it worked and the docs are of course very spartan. so copilot to the rescue — or so i thought.

because most people are using this API in swift there’s almost no public obj-c using this new API to train the AI on. so copilot simply refused to do it.

it would give me loads of detail using the ancient C API. or the new API in swift.

in the end i had it write it in swift and just translated back to obj-c myself.

i feel bad for all the devs seeing WWDC this year, and for the first time though jaded cynical eyes. it’s not pretty.

i mean it’s for the best that people view the marketing of mega corporations with healthy skepticism, but losing your religion is never much fun.

just remember that even though it might not be as awesome as it once seemed, the hard working engineers and artists in the trenches are just like you and me and deserve every bit of praise you can muster.
