I'm not sure I understand when Japanese use English loanwords (in katakana) instead of Japanese ones (given that there are both). Like there's the word 贈り物 for "present, gift" but then プレゼント is used. The same thing with 吸血鬼 for "vampire" and ヴァンパイア.
I wonder if there's inner logic, rule or it's just preference :meowthinking:

That annoying moment when you need to search for a name that coincides with some anime character and all you see in search results is that damn anime. Today at work I was swearing at some character from Attack on Titan. I don't care about that anime, I don't want information or profile details of that character, I just needed to check the notary's name for work ffs

Well, dramatic is an understatement. Everything is super dramatic.
We have an embodiment of viper's nest under the cover of high-class manners; people suffering with stained-glass windows in the background; aesthetically smoking with forlorn looks into the distance; blood drops that turn into rose petals in the wind; and everything has a sapphic undertone from the get-go. Every human interaction is highlighted: it's not just dislike it's hatred, it's not just a bit envious it's raging jealousy, it's not just love it's obsession. Every painful change in emotions is emphasized tenfold with pauses, repeats, flashbacks. All the while being beautifully drawn and accompanied with orchestral music. Should I just say my dramatic self loves this exaggeration so far?

Lucio Corsi has the best Sanremo journey I see this year. Authentic and very touching talent. He's got his own idea of what he's meant to do and follows it to his heart's content while simultaneously bringing all of us into his world. My personal favorite and discovery, so it's fine even if he doesn't win 🤍

When searching for manga with vampires I came across The Vampire & His Pleasant Companions by Marimo Ragawa and Narise Konohara. And may I just say: it's so lovely that it came as a surprise to me. Sweet, light-hearted, sporadically painful when it comes to crime-connected matters. Half-made vampire who has no control over his abilities temporarily lives with a man of a particularly fitting profession.
Judging by one of the author's works this one is supposed to be BL as well, but so far (vol. 5) it kinda veers off a bit in terms of defining their relationship. Although I like the angst of the sentiment "the sorrow of outliving a loved one" in vampire-themed stories. Looking forward to seeing how it'll be handled here if it comes to this.
P.S. AL in his bat form is an absolutely adorable fluff ball.

And I just now realized that from this manga cover it's hard to tell which one is the vampire...

Every time I see people praising/slagging off dubbing in anime I feel completely out of place 'cause I don't get how you could watch it dubbed in the 1st place tbh. A huge part of anime charm for me personally is work of Japanese seiyuu, and without them chances are I won't watch it at all. Even if chosen dubbing actors are professionals with lovely-sounding voices, they always sound... somehow wrong. Let alone miscasts.

P.S. Just watched 5 min of anime with American dub and I honestly want this time back. Also dubbing over Shou Hayami... should be some sort of crime in itself

I'm not sure what to feel about season 2 of Under the Skin.
Sad to say but I'm not sure I enjoyed the direction it went. I love when shows experiment but in this particular case it seemed to change too drastically for my liking. The beginning seemingly went along similar lines to season 1 (with episode 4 being the absolute gem in terms of my involvement with the story), but from then on the focus shifted. Aesthetics were still on point, but changing artistic help to psychological profiling (?) and crime prediction (?) didn't feel right for this show. Therefore, the second half of the season seemed too dragged for me. Though I must admit it gave me a new actor I was really impressed with and it’s Zheng Yunlong. No idea who he is but he felt really convincing as the doctor of genetics with hidden agenda and mysterious motives. Didn’t fool me but was a joy to observe. And we have a cliffhanger... wonder which direction season 3 will go.

OMG they chose Kenjirou Tsuda to voice yokai in episode 11. And not just voice them but basically narrate an entire episode. It's otherworldly... this voice just penetartes under your skin and flows in your veins.

And this is probably one of the best episodes in general. Wonderful, touching and absoultely heart-breaking story between the girls. This anime just keeps winning with all the choices creative team are making

Soshite, Hare ni Naru (And it will be sunny)
Second manga by the same author and I have very similar feelings after reading. It's warm, nice and family-focused but at the same time has a bit of a sad streak going on. Especially if you are able to identify with one of the characters or rather with the issues they handle. I know I did... and kinda felt seen for that. My only issue with this mangaka is that she doesn't seem to like rounding up and detailing her stories, they feel very free-flowing

Under the Skin (season 2 episode 4):
I'm sitting here in tears. And I was like that throughout an entire episode. It's not a given when kids are involved. But in this particular case it certainly was. A good demonstration of a situation when nothing is as it seems. So never judge without knowing or at least without trying to know. Amazingly emotional

Second part of chapter 32 impressed me with its setting. Early New Year morning with deserted streets, not a single person around. Magical time. When you truly feel separated from the world. It's reminiscent of the empty winter beach in early chapter, which also isolated the boys from everyone else. It can't be like this forever. You can't ignore the rest of the world. But for these life-changing or meaningful moments it's so fitting

I don't get it when in their reviews people mark something down only because it turned out different from what they had in mind before reading/watching. Like they expected X but it turned out Y. But why is it this work's or author's problem what YOU had in mind? I expected it to be a thriller but it turned out to be a detective. OK, and? I don't see how my personal expectations are criteria for evaluating something. It may be mentioned, sure. But being the only factor for not liking something is very weird to me tbh
