What is the correct way to handle pegs when removing clothes from a clothes line? Somebody has questioned my choice and I need validation.

Leave the pegs on the line for next time.
Take the pegs down and put them in a bucket.

It's been a very, very long time since the UK government has done anything other than being an international embarrassment. Even the concept of Britishness was a little embarrassing. Today I think that changed. Real leadership is emerging in the UK and in Europe once again.

I sincerely hope something tangible results from these talks and the defence of Ukraine is assured. But even the political show of force itself (and the media photo op at Lancaster House) is worth it after the charade at the white house.

I'm making progress on spaces!

I found this list: joinmatrix.org/guide/popular-r

Also the following spaces:
- : matrix.to/#/#retro:nil.im
- : matrix.to/#/#osdev:matrix.org
- : matrix.to/#/#osm-space:matrix.
- : matrix.to/#/#community:ubuntu.

And some rooms:
- : matrix.to/#/#selfhosted:matrix
- matrix.to/#/#Home-Assistant:ma
- : matrix.to/#/#taslug:matrix.org

I am convinced I used to be part of a big Australia Matrix space when I first joined years ago, but can't find it any more. One day it will appear...

A few weeks ago I asked for advice on people to follow on Mastodon. I got a tonne of great responses and my experience here has improved 100x. It's now my favourite social network by far.

I'm now asking for suggestions again, this time for Matrix (the chat protocol/network/whatever it is). I'm talking to a few people and have joined a couple of rooms, but it just feels... empty.

So, if you have suggestions of public rooms/spaces to join, I'd really appreciate it. The search functionality in Element sucks badly (though matrixrooms.info/ helped a bit).

Also, if you're on Matrix and feel like chatting, let me know how I can find you!

For those interested: after writing the previous post I discovered that NBN had recently upgraded the fixed wireless tower nearby and it is now in range. Probably should have researched before angry ranting, but oh well.

Today the physical installation was completed, and I now have an connection with Launtel, public static IP and everything!

Looking forward to getting rid of and saving $40/month as a bonus! I'll keep the Starlink equipment as a last-ditch backup (my primary backup connection will be a 5G connection with Telstra), but I hope to never use it again.

I live out in the 'middle of nowhere' (about 8km from the nearest telephone exchange, lol), and because our federal government sucks, I'm forced onto either NBN Satellite with its horrible latency, or Musk's Starlink.

Up until now I've been happy with the Starlink service, even if I've disliked its owner.

Given the events of the events of the last few weeks though, I'm now actively looking into other options. Even if I'm happy continuing to pay Starlink (which I'm not, really), I honestly think the risk of Starlink being switched off in Australia as some sort of political maneuver is non-zero at this point.

Seriously considering starting up a WISP for the valley I live in.

The TLDR: Musk is a Nazi, and I'm not happy with Starlink.

In the last week I've uninstalled and from my phone. I replaced Spotify with Plexamp, and already had Mastodon installed.

Once I've got my Spotify playlists and saved Threads copied somewhere, I'll be able to delete those accounts permanently (and I might get around to deleting the Twitter account I haven't logged into for two years as well).

Hey everyone! I'm after ideas of people to follow, to make Mastodon feel a bit more like home (or like Twitter used to feel like in 2016, one or the other). I'm looking for:
- Journalists. Preferably Tasmanian or climate-focused, but any suggestions are fine. Nothing further right-leaning than The Economist would publish.
- Other business people who like talking about subjects such as marketing, productivity, small business issues, etc.
- People who post lots of photos of their lives (like Instagram). Bonus points if they're woodworkers or gardeners or into permaculture.
- Reposters of hilariously bad life advice gleaned from Reddit comments. We all need a laugh.

I'm on a quest to reduce the number of social networks I'm on, and Threads is going first.
