The ball joints mostly see sheer forces laterally. They don't take the weight of the car in the direction of gravity.

I'll be going with 10.9 hardware. I'm worried that anything harder is more likely to crack than bend in a failure. But also, it's hard to get rust proof 12.9 bolts in the right sizes. The 10.9 hardware can get the normal zinc plating and will corrode less. It's a big issue near the hot and often moist wheels.

I'm switching to a bolt-on ball joint for the 951 race car. I'm feeling nervous trusting my life to three tiny M7 bolts in single shear. The ball joint pin is already an anemic 17mm.

Doing some math, and the three M7 bolts are equivalent to a single M12. If I drill them to M8, it's as strong as an M14. So long as the load is spread evenly, which... probably isn't the case.

Do any mechanical engineers out there want to make me feel better?

I just found out I've been reviewing Copilot code.

So the developer has AI write all the code, massages it enough to compile, and then dumps it on me to sort the madness out.

I... don't even know how to approach management about this. I probably don't.

After searching, you're provided with a list of sources. Not all of us are effective and ruling out untrustworthy sources, but it is at least possible.

That seems to be the biggest downside to LLM search. It was built against all the good and bad information out there but obfuscates the sources of trust.

There's only one source of trust, the LLM, and it can't be trusted.
